I've been beevering away with thoughts for ages, I'd like a single/twin seater style vehicle but with a small'ish Tdi lump in the boot. The electric is a great idea but as its only still in the idea & design development stages I'd suggest to go down the route of designing the base vehicle with multiple power options.

1) You can develop the vehicle with a ready market using existing power plants
2) A tdi/sdi lump will do a remarkable job & can be veggie too
3) Existing customers can upgrade to electric at a later date
4) You could use an existing scooter power plant

I'd love to able to build something like myself, so why not go down the kitcar route, cuts build costs & owners can develop the car as they go along.

As for manufacturing methods, use a steel tubular chassis, its cheap & with cnc production its cheap to develop too, I know a few leads for this. Vacuum formed body mouldings are nowadays cheap to produce using low volume production moulding (cnc again)

Developments costs need not be huge!!!

Robin Hoood (GBS) had a new scooter powered trike at Newark, it attracted loads of attention. All alloy apparently and quite cheap to build, the guy said it weighs 100kgs too. Single seater

There was an article in one of the kit car mags last year about someone who had built a 1600cc diesel MEV rocket. using the diesel ford unit. I bet that had decent MPG.

Bumping this old thread as things are becoming interesting at the EU....yikes

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/e...

Just read this article and can't really believe what they're trying to do to all of us...maybe they're trying to help the car industry by developing the framework for new forms of transport......biggrin
