looks like the peel 50 is on it's way back into production ???
Just wondering if this is the new P5o replica model ?

Morning fuoriserie

It is possible. My brief researches suggest little activity since 2010/2012.

Wait and see I think. Certainly seems inactive currently.

Good Morning Steffan,

I just think, that being that the Peel Engineering company is still actively trading, their might be a problem for another company to start manufacturing replicas ?

http://www.peelengineering.com/

The Concept makes perfect senses, for overcrowded cities, even after 60 yrs. and a modern version could find a niche ...with a different styling, but bigger wheels(at least 13in.) , a modern 50cc scooter engine and slightly bigger dimensions.

No replicas needed, just a new model...smile

Morning Fuoriserie. Very interesting project that one and on the face of it, this could be a really worthwhile project!

However the 125 engine strikes me as not entirely adequte particularly two up!

From memory the old Sachs 200cc two stroke engine fitted originally and with the dynastart fitted had four reverse speeds and for forward gears as was was a more realistic outfit?

Still very worthwhile seeing the opportunity, which looks pretty chipper to me.

Sadly I am totally snowed under with excessive kit cars and classics otherwise........??? Who knows?

Hi Steffan,

Modern 125cc scooter engine have from 9 to 11.5 Hp and are very close to the originals in that respect....in todays traffic and power crazy, you would need at least a 250-300cc engine with 22-25hp to have a fast cabin scooter 3wheeler.

With the single seater Tercyclo, we had a 160cc engine with 15hp and was fast enough to reach 100km/h, more than the required limit 85Km/h for a Heavy Quadricycles in Italy and the EU.

You can find some great 400cc scooter engines( see Suzuki Burgman, Honda Silverwing, Yamaha XMax) with 33-39Hp and would make a cabin scooter faster than we might think...

This Isetta homage still doesn't really sort the commuting congestion problem that what I call a cabin scooter would. Maximum width 1m Maximum length 2.5m. Most of the stuff so far is either too wide to lane split, too long to park end on to the kerb or too open to stay dry in.

What happened to all those projects and ideas from March 2009?

We built two running prototypes and you can see the video of the Tercyclo with the 160cc scooter engine ( we never showed the 50cc version....)

I don’t know if it was electric back in 2016 but it is now. It only mentions availability in Switzerland followed by EU countries a little later. Looks quite smart, but over £20,000 with the longer range batteries.

I confess, watching the videos I couldn't work out how they're going to make money on it. They've done a properly-engineered monocoque with some big pressings and so on. The tooling costs (even for low-volume soft tooling) must have been tremendous.

You can get a sense of the BIW in this video: https://www.facebook.com/microlino.car/videos/6795...

Yet I'm assuming (I may be wrong, but reports suggests a build to L7e standards) it is built to quadricycle standards (no mandatory crash tests, etc.). There are some reassuring signs in that video of some nice engineering, but there's still little structure to progressively deform and absorb loads.

So who is funding this? How are they going to get their money back? A second-hand smart mk 1 would be just as handy around town in the real world, and far safer in a crash. And with EV conversions available for such a mk 1 smart (including the roadster), would probably be a smarter buy.

I do love that this thing exists. But I'm struggling to understand the business case.

Although it has dropped since its peak, the market for quadricycles in France is not insubstantial: LINK. Mainly teenagers, as I understand it, since you can drive 'light quadricyles' (limited to 28mph) at 14 without a licence, but there's a reasonable market for 'heavy quadricycles' as city cars as well.

Even these days, they're selling enough to make the whole UK kit car industry pale into insignificance, and was sufficient to tempt even the major manufacturers into the market (Renault Twizy and Citroen Ami).
