Is there a kit Lambo Diablo ?
I ask as I saw something very odd on a trailer this morning on the way to work - a late model Diablo (non-popup lights model, with the 'bonnet' inlet hump) with incorrect cut outs and gaffer taped panels.

It didn't look like a trackday tart or an ex-racer but rather a bodged kit

Could conceivably have been one of those then
The Torero looks impressive, have you seen one 'in the flesh' ?

BTW: Nice towcar pulling its trailer Toerag V10 (the first I've seen )

Seen them at the kit car shows. Not really my sort of motor being on the large side ( me not the car)

looked very good indeed. Would easily fool the untutored eye. One company even do a fake rocker cover affair to change a rover v8 into a lambo looka like so all looks pukka through the engine bay window.

With all replicas, it is a question of how much you pay will have an affect on its apperance. Kitcarman may be able to give a better answer due to his connections

Googling came up with this:

www.exclusivemotorcars.ca/

How to make even the engine bay look authentic

Having looked at the Parallel site, that's a hell of a lot of £££ for a 'mere' replica

What you saw is almost certaily the Bugatti Veryon development mule. It has all the mechanicals of a Veryon in a Diablo body and has been tested in the UK.

Aha - explains the posh VAG tow car. Dino must be right. Now that is a kit and a half.

Would be funny if this bodged up kit turned out to be the real thing

I've seen the Torero as well and was very impressed until a friend said that it would always be seen as a kit and therefore would probably be hard to sell It did look good though and with a big v8 or v12 it would be quick. I wasn't so impressed with the sales team.

You are not wrong! They reckon £30k home built with a standard powerplant, or 55k for a high spec turnkey car! I'd be tempted with a REAL used LHD available for around 40K!

Servicing costs may convice me not to bother though..

A news article in Autocar pictured the Diablo/Veron mule. Think it was yellow. Looked a bit battered and covered with duct tape but obviously not tacky replica.

That'll be the one then
Quite an impressive 'spotted' if I do say so myself
It was in Leicestershire - high speed testing at one of the airfields ?

That article above said:

It instantly retards the ignition when the driver applies big jabs of the throttle that could unsettle the car.

I thought retarding the ignition was something entirely different to ensure combustion happened at the right point. In the context above sounds more like a traction control type thingamywotsit.

MIRA has a testing facility in Leicestershire, doesn't it?

High speed bowl, handling circuit, etc.

Yeah, normally when you set ignition timing you're trying to ensure it happens at the right point to generate maximum power.

I suppose if you can adjust it dynamically and significantly retard the ignition quickly enough, then you can cut power i.e. the spark fires when the piston is already quite a bit of its way back down the cylinder. Normally you're firing the spark just before TDC so the while the flame propagates the piston is just going over TDC and getting max benefit of the full oomph of the explosion behind it.

I suppose if you wanted to get really extreme you would advance ignition to the point where the explosion is working against the piston on it's way up the cylinder before TDC. That might destroy the engine though, which would certainly be one way to cut the power pretty quick!

BTW, you probably know this, but that is effectively what pinking is, hot spots in the cylinder or red hot carbon deposits igniting the mixture before the spark. That's why it sounds horrible!
