There's a thread that's started to discuss diesel kits, anyone know a manufacturer whose looked at an LPG powered machine?

The only problem I see with using LPG is space.

I believe you still need to be able to run petrol aswell as LPG, (for start up??) which means 2 fuel tanks. You also need more space under the bonnet for the extra pipework.

Would be interesting to see it done. (A second project for a magazine ???)

If you do get it done you'll need to keep the petrol system if you ever decide to come to Cornwall. I can name one fuel station (in about 50 miles) that sells LPG.

The friend who I will be building my dax with runs a fully converted Range Rover. As he is an off roader too, he had his first tank put where the back seat was, then had twin under chassis tanks fitted, then when he realised he wasn't using any petrol because of cost he had the petrol tank converted to a lpg tank.

This gives him about 130 litre capacity and he can get about 500 miles when full ( as far as I can remember)

He has removed the petrol pipes and only the gas pipes remain.

There are a few small pumps for balancing the tanks but not a lot of extra.

Obviously it it easy to hide things away in a big car like the RR but could be scaled down for a kit.

Trouble with some kits is they have a small tank to start with Such as the LSIS cars.

Could work in a Cobra size car though.

If you went for LPG I think you need 1 1/2 or 2 times the amount of LPG compared to petrol something to do with the combustion rate petrol burns faster which gives a bigger bang for the same quantity so obviously to get a reasonable range you would need a tank twice the capacity for lpg as opposed to petrol

PS I know a chap who lives down the road from me does LPG conversions did a 3 litre senator Never used any petrol in it live about 15 miles from a garage selling LPG Said he would never afford to run it on petrol

PPS he's the chap I bought my spartan from
