Kiwi Carguy, if you wouldn't mind enquiring about the windscreens on my behalf that would be great...
Hiya. I have spoken to Bruce (owner of Saker) and he is happy to send you a screen if it suits your project and has done so for other cars. His contact is info@sakercars.com I believe he recently sent two screens to the USA.

I live 1 hour from the factory and you should have no issues in terms of receiving the screen etc. If you need any more help then let me know smile

Hi, sorry to hijack this a little, but do you know if the 'screen is appropriately-marked for EU use? I realise Saker have an EU sales office, but that might just be for track use, and their site is a bit of a content-free zone as far as regulatory issues is concerned!

Further, do you happen to know (a) if any dimensions / CAD files exist for the 'screen, and (b) what the cost of the part & shipping (in my case, to the UK) might be?

Needless to say, you might know none of these things, and I can always contact Saker directly smile

I would also be interested on the same information for the screen, especially on the dimensions ?

Thanks
Italo

I've emailed the UK sales operation to ask these questions; Italo, your best contact might be the Dutch office, but I'll post here what I hear from the UK side (if anything).

Hi everyone,

Front stub axles now 100% complete. Bearing nut and wheel nut require a small amount of work on the mill to finish then I can start assembling the upright assemblies.

Tried uploading pics for the last hour but getting nowhere. Will try again tomorrow..

I machined the hex on one of the centre-lock wheel nuts and trial fitted the bearings and stub axles to the upright today. It all went together absolutely fine. Bearing fits were spot on and axle flange runout measured at the outermost part is non-existent with my 0.001" dial gauge. I.e. everything runs very true..

Can that stuff be used as is, or does it require any heat treatment or any other after-machining processes?

Hi Rob,

I have been following this thread from the beginning. It is nice to see such a high level of technical competence and ability in a build. Keep it up!

Cheers!

Looking good my friend!

We are now living out in singapore, so looking forward to reading your progress and maybe seeing the finished article on one of our trips back.

Lower spherical bearing mount looks interesting, got a pic from the other side.

The hubs are machined from EN24T and will not require any heat treating to finish. The billets were supplied in treated form and were tough to machine. Liberal amounts of coolant were used to keep everything cool! I am thinking of getting them nitrided though as this will improve corrosion resistance as well as bumping up ultimate strength.

Yes the lower wishbone mount is smilar to yours I think. The cap at the bottom is machined out in a vee shape on the far side (will get some pics), as I see in your pic to give clearance on the lower wishbone for all steering angles. I have used 4 M6 bolts to clamp the cap at the bottom of the upright, leaving the ball joint bolt in double shear..

No further progress with manufacturing I'm afraid. I have been working on the design a fair bit though. I've changed the front suspension setup for a pull-rod design. The main reason for this was to be able to achieve a low nose inbetween the two front wheels. I've also finished the final design of the rear suspension setup, namely rear uprights, bulkhead plates and associated support structure. I'm off on holiday for a week now but when I get back I'll be ordering the material for the all of the above as well as the steel for the wishbones and the large billets for the wheel centres. I'll put up some more CAD images when I get back too. It's been a bit quiet on the manufacturing front recently I know, but I really wanted to get together a few decent sized orders since delivery costs on raw materials are quite high!

Hi all,

It's been a while but I have progress to report on!

I have been putting a lot of design hours in. I redesigned the front suspension coilover actuation moving from push-rods to pull-rods and moving the coilovers themselves outboard to give a low nose height in between the two front wheels and above the pedal box area.

I've also cut out the brackets for the old setup, filled in the gaps and created a jig for attaching and welding on the new brackets.

The rear suspension design is laid out. I'm just working through the individual parts putting in the final details right now.

I've put in my order for the steel for the wishbones and am going to put in the order for aluminium billets next week. I've been tweaking the design of the wheel centres getting them to look right but I think I'm pretty much there now.

The design change to the front suspension meant a few weekends work on the chassis. That is sorted now, so I can crack on with fabricating the wishbones, send the final wheel centre designs to my CNC man, and with some nuts and bolts etc have the two front wheels fitted!

Seeing as your now putting a Bending moment into the lower chassis rail how thick is it ? When we built my chassis, i was told to go from 1.5mm tube to 3mm tube on the rail that now took the Spring load. Like the pull idea though you right saves room, might look at that idea for myself... Cheers..
