I agree with Ex-Biker though, these projects seem to come with a rather high price tag. I wonder how many years of trading it would take before they would have paid for themselves?

A min of 2 - 3 years if they were a suitable price.

The prices being asked for these projects, 5 - 10 years

Why run a business if you don't want to make a profit and inturn money?

Working for the love of the job is great, but if it doesn't pay the bills?

Most ongoing businesses tend to be worth AFAIK between 3 and 5 times NET profit, that make most Kit-Car companies that come on the market worth about a weeks wages

If you were in it for the money I think you would invest elswhere!

It's not just an issue of the asking price either, you are only buying the tools and maybe some stock, you still have premises to find and the logistics of what is effectively a startup. The idea of fulfilling orders at the same time as learning how to run the business is quite a scary one. In other business opportunities there is often the opportunity of a handover period, not an option with these.

Perhaps this is why you see some projects fail after the original company sells up, or continue to change hands on a regular basis.

If one person bought all these projects/businesses as they came up, then I think you'd have a model for everyone, perhaps capture a big chunk of the market?

I think that is what RS Jigtec are trying to do.

They've got the Trackstar and now the Snake (CMW 235) and the Lomax cars (4 models).

I'm surprised they didn't buy the SPD200 too.

I had heard there were one or two issues with the SPD '7'.

Quick thread hijack:

I reckon somebody from Which Kit? is monitoring this forum as when I read the Limelight Exhibitions blurb it said "Free entry to kit car drivers whot turn up in their car" or word to that effect.

I refer to a previous thread can't remember which one but it said something like " if peetbee, and myself turned up with a photo of the pile of bits that is our kit car would we get in for free".

Hijack over. Sorry

That's no hijack.

And yes I do monitor this site

Joking aside, I am fairly sure that if WK?, Limelight Exhibitions, RV Dynamics, Autocraft Publications, Unique Autocraft etc etc are not monitoring this site, they have friends that do.

Maybe they have a company called 'Forum monitoring services'

The closest I'm going to get to the show now is if someone takes a photo of me!

Would the photo of me get in free then if it was accompanied by the picture of my kit?

Um it's not at the moment due to being over 4500 miles away from it
Work always seem to get in the way of me enjoying myself!

I have got a week booked off just before Easter so I'll hopefully catch up a bit, but I think realistically it's going to be June at least before I got something that looks like a car again.

At this rate I'll never make it to any shows to collect it!

I'm in the states so I'm trying to work out if I could sneak a nice big v8 into my hand luggage!!

How's your progress, erm progressing?
