Might be fun to have a club for people who've crashed a Raffo - I did a Tipo 12, the first prototype, in fact. Flew through the air with the greatest of ease, and knocked down 20ft of brick wall in the process. Wheels fell off nicely, so no roll-over, and roof detached for instant ventilation if it had caught fire - superb. The one before was the real handler, and the honour of writing that one off went to a Chris Rees, one of Filby's bums from kitcar days that time forgot....

.........and maybe it should be added that the car written off by Chris Rees was crashed within 10 minutes of taking it from John Raffo's home in Southport and their insurance didn't pay out ( allegedly because they didn't have any! ), needless to say John was not best pleased! I lived in Southport at the time and used to call in at John's workshop at the back of his house for a look at what they were up to, I even had the privilege of being piloted in the red Tipo 12 by John, he was no mean driver by any stretch of the imagination and in his hands the Tipo was unbelievably quick on the twisty back lanes around Southport, I still have the memory of the Alfa boxer screaming away inches behind my ears as John calmly described the 12's handling characteristics going round a tight 90° bend at a speed that left you in no doubt of the confidence he had in his design!

Harshal,

It should be registered and described as a Raffo Tipo 12, obviously, but there were only a dozen built, if my memory serves me correctly, and it was a fair while ago so even most specialists wont be particularly familiar with them any more.

Having said that, I didn't experience any difficulties insuring mine through and all the specialist kit car insurers were happy to quote on it (though admittedly that was a good few years ago). Try ringing round the brokers who advertise in the kit car magazines.

That looks like quite a good deal, must say I felt a slight surge of temptation myself.
