Steve, I'll look out an old photo of the dash and mark it up for you, I made it and replaced / added some of the instruments after I bought it

And yes, I had the gearbox rebuilt by Bernie, it's the original one I got with the car although I ran it for a few weeks on a 2nd hand one from a breakers until that broke too and I did what I should have done in the first place and got a rebuild.

Make sure you're getting full clutch travel before assuming the syncro is knackered, but the box has certainly had a fairly hard life since. Hope you get it sorted easily.

I'm going to have to totally build a new dash for it myself and I don't have a clue about how to do it yet so any pointers from anyone would be very welcome indeed. If anyone knows a thread about it on here that may already exist pls point me to it!

Interesting thread as have been considering a Fury recently. Previously owned a Caterham 140bhp Supersport and an Elise Sport 160 and wondering how a Fury would feel.

Use would be around 5 track days a year and odd weekends fast road use. Would i be disappointed after the Caterham? Budget constraints mean i cant justify the cost of the Caterham i would like at the moment and never really enjoyed the Elise.

Leaning more towards a bike engined Fury, doesnt seem to be any for sale at them moment bike engined or otherwise!

Matt, I've been in and driven a few of each and the main difference is that the Caterham is more likely to be consistently good and well set-up. Something like a Fury will vary more from car to car, but one set up properly is an absolute joy (whether live axle or IRS) and in reality there's so little to go wrong that even if you end up re-building all the suspension to sort it it's no big deal. Get a nice one and you won't miss your Elise or Caterham in driving terms, but you may miss the little build and design details which the more mass-produced cars always manage better. Also the Caterham will always cost more, but then will still be worth more later. I sold my Fury a few years ago (it's the one being discussed above), have a TVR still to keep me amused but when time and funds permit another track toy I won't hesitate to buy another Fury/Phoenix/Striker, then maybe build one later when our little lad is old enough to get involved. If you can find a nice one I'd say go for it smile

A mate has an old Fury and it uses an MG Midget soft roof, easy to put up and seals as good as any 70's soft top with the top screen mating face
My Spitfire back in the day was good and certainly these type of hoods will be much better than those fitted to a 7 replica

Where abouts are you Matt? I'll be at Blyton track tomorrow in my R1 Fury. Would be happy to give you a few passenger laps if you can get there.
Mine gets used on 3-4 track days a year, weekend blats and a weeklong tour through the Alps every year; So it's quite versatile.

Similar to the above - I have an R1 engine Fury (as of last week!) and you're welcome to have a nosey / jump in any time. I'm based near Preston. Have ownership experience of two Westfields for comparison - already have found that the differences between the two are are fairly vast, but subtle... The Westy is for sale... (Edit: In a 'I think I prefer the Fury for my use' way, not a 'buy it' way!)

It was a very tidy (and quick) car when Joe built it until he sold it the first time. It looked a bit sorry for itself when he bought it back again. Would be good to see it back how it used to be.

That's exactly what I could gather from the build photos etc. It looked extremely tidy in those, so it's a shame Joe lost heart with it / motivation for it after seeing it in the state it came back to him in.

I don't tend to concern myself much with cosmetics but it'll be mechanically sorted by the time I'm done. It's still quick - in fact I would say as quick as my 250bhp/590kg Westfield, just needs tweaking to get it where I want it (and then a full strip down in winter to repair all the chassis cracks, haha)...

Hopefully see you out and about sometime smile

Steve...

I ran both the A048s and the 888s, and I think the latter probably suited the car better, they have a slightly softer side wall and are also a little less expensive. Grip wise there was very little in it. I think the car was probably over tired at the fronts and could have done with wider rubber on the rear but not sure what tyres the rims would take...just cant remember.

I also had the Water Injection controlled by the ECU. The fan switch was manual and located on the dash. The OMEX thing was a waste of time and not necessary so don't bother reinstalling that as the ECU was rewired up and a lot of work was done by Norris Motorsports to get the ECU properly controlling the Boost.

I hope not too much was done to the car by the subsequent owner to me as it was running really well and I did alot to get it bang on. I spent quite alot on it.

You may just want to keep an eye on temps as I had a head gasket failure. The block may need decking next time as its not perfect

Dammit, I wanted a stalker frown

Makes sense though - there seem to be loads of people who are into both cars and bikes. Where do you work?
