Den.

I sincerely hope that part of the deal was to drop the 'Detail' moniker?

That nickname thing in 'WK?' really gave me the irrits. Enough to put me off buying the magazine in itself.

Spoilsport!

It was growing on me.

Next month I’d intended to introduce the staff as Ian ‘topdog’ Hyne, Adam ‘newshound’ James, Tom ‘topcat’ Saunders, Iain ‘irritating’ Ayre and … wait for it Dennis ‘menace’ Tanner. I’d even reckoned on offering Graham ‘ding-dong’ Bell a job but I haven’t ‘sounded’ him out yet.

Guess I’ll have to rethink the entire plan.

Den.

I picked up the latest copy of Kit Car Magazine yesterday (the American one!) and noticed that they had an article in there about two Ultimas. One built by an American and the other by an Englishman wearing slippers in his garage!

It was quite interesting, having followed the build story of Nigel's Ultima, to see what the Amercians thought. All in all it was a good summary of his build and they were all impressed. Good publicity for Ultima too!

This is the second article I've seen from Nigel in there and have found him very informative and enjoy his build articles. Nice guy too.

Hi Peetbee,
Nigel is indeed a very professional guy!

I spent a whole day with him during which very sensitive issues were discussed. What really impressed me was that, although it was obvious that he had issues with his ex-employer, he wouldn’t say what they were.

In fact in all the time I spoke to him he didn’t bad-mouth anyone (come to think about it he did – me, but that was acceptable as we were face to face and in private).

If there was one message he conveyed, it was that he wants to simply be part of the production of a decent magazine, containing only positive, legitimate and wholesome articles. He advised me to put my hurts behind me and concentrate my considerable energies toward building my future rather than undermining Fib’s.

It was after speaking to him and generally discussing the way forward for the magazine that I decided to cool my 'determination' in relation to Python. I don’t know if I said in this forum, but Nigel is to edit Cobra magazine on a trial basis. Nigel made clear that he wants the Python ‘problem’ solved sensitively - in his way, with minimal fallout.

He really is an asset to this industry and to the cause of peace and prosperity. Such an honourable person deserves to be read both here and abroad.

Well done Nigel.

I've heard a whisper that as a result of Nigel Dean leaving to join Den, as of the next issue it's going to be Peter 'Pissed Off' Filby.

I heard it was going to be Peter 'PissedOff' Filby .

But I guess it’s just a matter of pronunciation and inflection.

I just read the latest issue of KC (bit behind the times I know, but my whole Fury project is running in super slo-mo at the moment...), and there seems to be something of a swipe about a rival magazine's journalist who builds cars in unfeasibly clean garages whilst wearing slippers...

Ooops, how much extra did that cost when negotiating the transfer??!

p.s. Not trying to wind anybody up, I just felt a bit of a Private Eye moment coming on then!

[:Actually, I mean almost everybody. A chap on the Cobra site reckons Nigel’s work isn’t worth reading because he once wrote an article about how to wash a car (you can guess where it was published ).

Read it again Den, what I actually said was that a 3 page artical on how to wash a car by Mr Dean was the reason I stopped buying WK?
I never said the Nigel's work isn't worth reading.
Come on Den, you are the one who is always on about being misquoted.

Is there???

I never noticed that!!!! Luckily, I don’t think Nigel noticed it either:wash-mouth-with-soap:.

Guess I’ll have to tone that one down, and no I’m not offended – I’m just a little red faced.

Den.

Sorry I made you grumpy Dave – I did turn over 2 pages at once didn’t I? This is what you actually said:-

I hate to p#ss on the chips here, but the reason I stopped buying WK was a three page article by "detail" on how to wash a car.
Until then I bought "both Mags" without even opening the front cover.
First select a bucket....... a red on would be nice.................

Sorry?

Wacky and Wob,
It looks like he did notice after all. This is an extract from his introductory piece….
Nigel said:
. . . . At the time, the late eighties, I was renting a rather large house and believe it or not actually built the car to rolling chassis stage in the dining room. I guess that’s where I get my fetish for carpeted garages and working in slippers! It was during this build that my obsessive tendencies came to light. Everything had to be perfect.

Congrats Den,

Nigel Dean's articles were the only reason I got WK. You've just saved me over £3 a month in magazine spending!
