I got a call from somebody this evening????

He said that the latest issue of my competitors magazine was indeed bigger than usual BUT that its last 16 pages were IDENTICAL to the corresponding pages of its previous issue.

Whilst they’re at the back, these pages are numbered 35 to 50. They start ‘Introduction’ and are clearly part of a future publication. I’m not criticising the fact that another publication is appearing as a part-work (as i've done it myself ), but am curious as to if it’s really true that EXACTLY the same 16 pages have been reproduced two months on the trot.

Did anybody pick up a copy at Stafford? And if so, can they confirm what I’ve been told? I can’t buy my copy till Friday.

Wow,
I’m disappointed that nobody can satisfy my curiosity.

On the other hand, I’m delighted.

Hmmm, Mr Tanner's Direct Debit/Credit Card details.

Ooops, I've just misplaced the decimal point.

I haven't seen "that" magazine in any of the newsagents I've been in, seems to have vanished. (I've not been looking for it, honest ! )

If he's not going to have "that bloke wot builds cars" as one of my colleagues put it today, writing for him for much longer, then it's not going to be very big in the future so may need to repeat pages.

Den, can you have a chat with "that bloke wot builds cars" so when he does start writing for you he goes into a bit more technical detail ? EG, how to make a car handle well on a track, take advice from people who've done it ? It's nice to see how to fit and polish a headlamp lens but only if it goes faster as a result

Yes,
I’ll speak to him about putting more ‘detail’ into his technical stuff. To be honest that’s part of what I was driving at in my now infamous attack on his slippers in WK? (or is it now WKC – they’re exchanging their question mark for a car, or so I’m told).

My point was that it was all too neat’n’tidy and too expensive and too unrealistic. However, it shouldn’t be too hard to change emphasis on these points either.

Nigel’s expertise has so far been developed along the lines of how to make things pretty, rather than go.

While he gets up to speed, I’ll have another chat with Mattstead – to see if he can provide some of that ‘dynamic’ tecky stuff.

Den, from what I've read of matts stuff you won't be disappointed. He can do basic this is what you need for a trackday type thing and I'm sure he can do techy this is how to set up your car for track day.

If he can't I'm sure he's got enough contacts brains to pick to put a very useful article together.

PS Matt picked up a copy of Kitcar Almanac and there was an article in there thet looked a lot like yours attributed to someone else.

Mail me off forum if necessary

Dynamic? not a problem, I've already made a start. I know what I know through building, driving and tweaking so the results should be practical...although puritans will no doubt complain about some technicallity or other, but whats the point of someone explaining what "toe in" actually is..no one ever tells you why it's relevant. And why do people think bump steer is bad etc, etc.

I discussed the finer technicalities with Paul Aspden of playskool motorsport sometime ago to ensure that we were singing from the same songsheet.

I know of a legandary manufacturer who's cars went down hill after going IRS, why? too many variable to tweak, so he tweaked them all.

Regarding car set up, I'm planning to take some corner weights to the Elvington trackday on easter sunday if anyone is coming and wants a print out.

Thanks Gary,
I find that astonishing. Not so much because it is astonishing, but in view of what it said last month.
Which said:
We take our readers seriously!
It then explains that Kit Car had 5 pages of reprinted material from way back (which we did) and other reprinted material (which we regard as advertising or advertorial) and utterly condemns us concerning these 10 pages. It goes on to say it’ll be fighting back.
Which said:
It all starts next month. More stories, more to read. . . It’ll be genuine stuff. . .

That ‘genuine stuff’ (meaning in context ‘not repeated’) turns out to be 11 editorial pages duplicated from its previous issue mixed with a few advertisements duplicated from within the very same issue.

I’ve been on chill-pills. What on earth is he on?

That's why for the last three or four YEARS you have had a section every month on page five starting "Now you'll just have to trust us on this one.........."

How's about changing the wording? it gets boring reading the same stuff every month........
