Comparing the Lister Bell to the real deal is like saying an MR2 with a Ferrari kit is as good as an F430. Two very different cars
I'd say it's like comparing a Hawk 289 with a Gardner Douglas.
They're different, and appeal to different buyers, but neither of them are bad products.

I was just surprised you could not see anything to do to it? Maybe you are just more easily pleased than me....
It depends how long you can wait for the right car? They all need something doing though, they're kit cars.
My point precisely.....

Yeh. I can see how the LB STR will appeal to the kit car builder, and there would be no point in making a kit that does a similar thing to the Hawk.

Personally, I'm more interested in the replica aspect than looking for a kit that's easier to build. I don't want a kit car, just something that's as close to a Stratos as possible.

Using the front uprights as an example of how the differences are on both kits; The LB STR uses state of the art CNC'd parts, but I like the fact that the Hawk uses the same old Fiat part that the original Lancia Stratos used. Some of these Fiat/Lancia donor parts are no longer available from scrap yards, not for a long long time, but the internet has made some other rarer parts possible. The inner door handles are an example of this, and were once nearly impossible to find, but now all those 850 Spiders are giving up parts on US ebay.

Hawk have actually tooled up to make the authentic inner handles now, but that has only happened recently.
In all those pre internet years, the more common inner handle of choice for Stratos replicas was the Fiat 500. There were a handful of car with beautifully hand made 850 Spider inner handles. So nice that they were better quality than the originals.

It's the mechanical Fiat/Lancia parts needed that would be a bigger issue. The Hawk uses the same Fiat front upright that's used on the Fiat 132, Argenta, Polonez and Fiat Dino. You also need the 132 front hub, but not if you're going for 5 stud. Hawk supply a bespoke alloy hub for 5x98mm. The rear end is easy to convert to 5 stud as you just swap Beta for Integrale EVO/Alfa 147, which uses the same 5x98mm part.

Back in the late eighties and early nineties people were sourcing and using more Lancia Beta and Fiat parts in Stratos replicas, but more of these parts are being substituted for bespoke stuff. For example, a lot of builders use specially made up driveshafts now for Alfa V6s, rather than using Beta shafts and CV adapters. So some of the old obsolete Fiat/Lancia parts are being phased out, but on a Hawk, the front upright, steering column and other bits and pieces remain.

When the kits were introduced, the idea was to go down to the scrapyard and source as many secondhand Fiat/Lancia parts as possible to keep the finished car cheap, but these days builders are spending more and more money on Stratos replicas. Those that can actually afford to build from new, that is.

And only 100,000 Euros. For that money, they'll paint it any colour you like. Alternatively, you can have my car for merely 99,000 Euros and I'll paint myself any colour you wish!
