Hawk Stratos prices
Discussion
Time for a reality check from you guys: the only kit car I've ever been interested* in is a Stratos replica. I've worked my way through X1/9, MR2 mk1 and now have an NSX. This thread bumping has made me think about scratching that Stratos itch.
Am I crazy? I'm getting old; I like reliability, I like creature comforts (ABS, TCS and AC in the NSX). I like doors that shut properly and Honda-spec panel gaps. I'm expecting a Stratos replica to be like the X1/9 - a bit basic and slightly awkward - plus very engaging.
If I do buy one, it would be used for Summer days (shows, runs, etc) and then for some track/driver training days (North Weald, etc). I expect it'd be cheaper to unbend a Stratos replica than an NSX.
Plus I'd go and look at it an awful lot. I love the fact that many people don't know what it is (same with the NSX).
But is that enough? At this point I suppose I'm after counter-arguments - tell me why I might not get on with it.
* well, I once wondered about the Beauford as a Panther De Ville on the cheap, but that love affair didn't last more than the next pint

Well, if you are building your own car, you can make it as comfortable as you wish. There's a whole range of built cars out there. For example, CorseChris's car was incredible. It had everything one could possibly wish for. Mine on the other hand, is stripped out and basic. A blank canvas, if you will.
One thing is for sure. Every time you drive one, you emerge afterwards with a broad grin on your face.

Well, I don't have the time to build my own car, so that's out, even if I could add more creature comforts (I saw that Lister Bell even has an AC option). And I will always have the NSX for fun/comfort/sociability (e.g. can't see my Other Half volunteering much for the passenger seat of a Stratos).
So this would just be for me, having fun. Sunday morning blasts, track days, get-togethers, shows, etc - and only in summer (probably SORN through winter).
Spoke to a chap in the local car club and it looks like I may already have some storage space lined up.
I just need someone to play Devil's Advocate!

My car is now for sale. The PH advert won't appear for a couple of weeks as I'm soon to go on holiday. But, it is available through the Stato's Enthusiasts' Club website.

but there's never been any correlation between genuine and replica values. It's the same with other types of car.
'Hard to believe that replicas were once only half the value of genuine examples? Only 10 years ago.
