so, my 2000 clubsport radical could be road registered without IVA if I can prove it was built and being used on track in 2000 as long as it passes an MOT ?
it has been over in spain, but there is no actual evidence of that...

does that also mean that a self built track used late 90s westfield can also be registered without an Iva as long as you can prove when it was first on the track?

that my understanding, the proviso being as always with the DVLA if you get no joy with your local one then just go to the next nearest, as they all seem to interpret the main rules in different ways, I dont believe you have to prove when it was first used, just first made, with a homebuild that could prove difficult, but with a manufacturer made race car its easier as there is more documentation available. Mine is one of only 22 chassis made, all put together and raced in 1988.

hmmm... so you would end up with an age related plate - not a Q plate if all parts were new back in 2000 ?

dont hold your breath in my case, I bought the car in 2004 and its still miles away from being completed never mind getting it road legal. By the time its ready I could probably enter it in the London to Brighton run !smile but at least this thread may push a few people into giving it a go now.

Interesting topic - sure there was a picture on locost of a single seater being driven in London (can't find it at the moment - vaguely remember the photo to be 70's)

Paul - which single seater do you own ?
love the pictures.

I am really pleased other Pistonheads readers find this interesting.

Yes I have seen the Dtmpower details and very interesting they are but unfortunately I don't think Furore are still making this car.

Currently chasing two possible sources but PLEASE DO keep the ideas flowing!

I want to source this project and have it in my hands ready to build by late March at the latest. Three month build (I can now do this full time subject to approval from SWMBO) and two months sorting + IVA/Histric registration depending on which project I choose, should give me a car that is usable this summer. THATS THE PLAN.

I HOPE!!!!!

I did say above that they were on locost but I couldn't find them in the search at the time. I just hosted them to ensure they could be viewed here once I had found the thread on locost.

If it offends or breaches any rules/copyrights I will take them down.

The red car isn't a Furore as far as I know but an ex-Formula Ford car (according to google)

I believe the red car is an ex F3 car which is on the road in Germany, it has a rather clever system for the headlights which fold away elecronically to be invisible whilst not in use - good job really as they are humungous ugly things although in fairness the dinky projectors we have now weren't available then!! There's a Youtube video of it somewhere.

Re your potential project there was a yellow single seater in one of last months kitcar mags, was fairly complete & around £2.5k IIRC, ex hill climb car I think, also Martin Bickells F1-2 has been up for sale several times recently & so far as I know not sold, I think you'd be lucky to buy it for less than around £7 -8k, but it's all there & road legal

Was looking at an interesting web pay the other day. Where a guy in the UK had built and was selling a 60's F1 styled with an American V8 in the back looked very nice. there was even an option to have false rivets moulded in to the body work so it all looked period. however I cant find the link now has any body else seen it.

Thanks to all for the posts I am pursuing the Red car not successfully currently.

ANY MORE ex racers anyone knows of I think these are the best route if they have proof of age.

Maybe try contacting the owner - http://www.kfz-christian-maier.de/

I think this is his business.

Steffan, like a couple of other posters I'm not at all convinced that just because it's over ten years old it's IVA exempt. I'd hate you to go to the expense of buying an old racer, modifying it a bit to make it what you think is road legal and then finding that you've got to get it through IVA and it won't qualify.

PLEASE talk to VOSA or pop in to an IVA testing station and ask the question of an expert befopre you buy anything. Could save you a lot of expense and heartache.

IMHO if it's this racer type you're after, then I reckon the Furore is by far and away your best bet. The man's done it and knows what he's talking about.

Tell you what, I've got a half crown that says this ten year old "rule" is a load of cowpooh. Want to match it?
