Glad you won the ring gear. Was going to bid on on it "for stock" but better it went to someone that could make proper use of it!

Originally EN 8 I think and replacement EN16.
But there are more knowlegable on the subject.

I will check some old posts since there is stronger again available.

You can also go slightly thicker in diameter and machine down the bush centres, this is less importand for M type carriers and more used as a mod for vixen type uprights.

N.

EN16 is usually supplied as EN16T in accordance with BS970. It is a low alloy high tensile steel. EN16T is supplied with a tensile range of 850 to 1000 n/mm2 depending on ruling section. EN16 has a good resistance to shock with excellent ductility. EN16 offers relief from tempere brittleness. Subject to ruling section larger sizes in EN16 can be supplied in other condition such as EN16R EN16S and EN16 as rolled (un heat treated).

EN8 is an unalloyed medium carbon steel with good tensile strength. It is normally supplied in cold drawn or as rolled. Tensile properties can vary but are usually between 500-800 N/mm2. EN8 is available from stock in bar and can be cut to your requirements. We also offer EN8 plate flame cut to your required sizes and normalised.

EN24 is a high quality, high tensile, alloy steel . Usually supplied readily machineable in ‘T’ condition, it combines high
tensile strength, shock resistance, good ductility and resistance to wear. EN24 is available from stock in round bar, flat bar
and plate.

EN24 is generally what to specify quill shafts in in vixen type set ups.

Good to see you're making progress Rudy - and using Andrew's car as a benchmark (good call!). I'm way behind you but I'm picking up the completed rear uprights tomorrow so should get the chassis rollin' soon. Won't be ready for the Pre-80's Extravaganza though so will just have to turn up in the Scensored
Keep up the good work!

Not to sure about Graham but I had a fantastic trip with Frank never saw Graham???? The hospitality was great was well looked after even lottie had her own private Bed and the Day at Zolder was fantastic we had at least 5 3000s there and even achieved the Red white and blue that I was trying to achieve for the jubilee maybe Frank will post a picture to celebrate the 40 years the prettiest convertible ever (biased of course)afraid Lottie did not want to come home as she had a holiday romance with a Tuscan/Vixen Conversion V8 and wants to have his Baby's she is still crying in the garage so anyone with a V8 out there that is needing some Looove get in touch.

red white and blue are in a seperate thread; Union Jack, see there

as for the Tuscan V8, we are led to believe the lovemaking was done by Lottie, which is not entirely true, will try to get a picture of what went on from the lads over at TVRCC Holland to get some evidence..........
