Vixen - engine swap - ideas and guidance please
Discussion
talking to one of the TVR guys today at donington, got me thinking (more out of curiosity than anything) about a V8 in the vixen...
but not so keen on upsetting the weight distribution with a heavy 302.. So how feasible would it be to AJP V8 a vixen? I think only around 120kg weight of that engine, not much more than a 4 cylinder ford
maybe its too much engine for such a light car.

120kg only for such AJP V8? that sounds good, although I guess a good engine does not come so cheap?
what other options do you have in light V8 without going crazy on money.
Maybe a good Rover V8 would also be possible, how much is such in weight, 140?
just found this site, with some engine weights, Rover 3.5 seems 318 pounds?
maybe a more modern Ford 5.0 with different heads? I saw some around 400

thanks Rene, from what ive read elsewhere the Rv8 isnt as light as people say
around 175kg+ for engine alone is often quoted
rv8 seems similar weight to the LS

I controlled weights when I swapped to the LS2. Old 500 complete with alternator, plenum, AC compressor, headers without cats, flywheel/clutch and T-5 gearbox was 258kg. Subtract 34 kg for the T-5 and you have 224kg. The similar complete LS2 with TKO600 but without AC-compressor weighted in at 265kg. Subtract 48kg for the TKO and you have 217kg. I used digital weight equipment, so these figures should be pretty accurate. per
and AJP does seem to be much lighter!Edited by Pete500 on Sunday 11th January 18:00

I have personally weighed a fully dressed AJP at 122kg dry. By fully dressed I mean ancilliaries on except exhaust manifolds and throttle bodies, no coil packs, no aircon compressor, flywheel fitted, no clutch.
just came across this one, good price too me thinks, its a race engine, but aren't they 'all'

In preparing for what engine to put in my Taimar (original engine and g'box are MIA), the research I've done suggests that the Mustang 302 I have, together with alloy heads, is the same weight as or possibly marginally lighter than a stock Essex V6, and it's a narrower V profile than a Rover/Buick lump. But if an AJP fits, and you have a spare one looking for a home, then that would probably also be a whole lot of fun when complete but not so keen on upsetting the weight distribution with a heavy 302.. So how feasible would it be to AJP V8 a vixen? I think only around 120kg weight of that engine, not much more than a 4 cylinder ford

love the colour and the wheels look good on the car (although the offset isnt ideal!) They look like steel wheels?

The yellow Vixen with the steel wheels is mine. I imported it from the USA where it was converted to Mustang PCD, and the green steelies were the rollers for the project (at that time without brakes, partly the reason for the strange offset ;-). If anyone would like to have them, drop me a line. They are for free for true TVR-enthousiasts, and a 1000 GBP for non-TVR-enthousiasts. If you band them they would look really good.
Best, B.
