What have you done in your Garage this evening??
Discussion
Looking great.
I've startet on my winter projects, first one adding a Wifi access point into the ECU of the car. So I can record all the engine data, speed, brake pressure etc. on my mobile together with GPS position. F1 technology in a M series :-) The more practical side of the story is that this solution can enable other engine guru's to log on to my car and modify engine data in real time.
The wife wasn't that impressed when I tried to explain her what I just made.

Well, body came off chassis again, removed all wiring, electrics and dash board. My son Christopher then set about cleaning off all underneath paint and sone chip, repaired the many holes that have been drilled in over the years then re painted it.
Prepped and sprayed the engine bay, body now refitted to chassis, set and fixed.
Temp fitted all new petrol tank straps, made a door for the petrol pump so i can access from underneath and a small removable panel to access the drain plug.
All now ready to be glassed into place them final fitted with correct length stainless fixings.
New stainless steel tank ready to go in when glassing is finished.
I've kind of gone back to go forward, but it was needed.

Best regards,

Making good progress Bernard, made a list!
Lined the petrol tank area with fire blanket and made ad fitted a new bulk head cover with brackets.
Fitted rear lights & bumbers (I know they all have to come off again but want to make sure I have everything)
Engine bay is progressing, servo and cylinder fitted, all piped up, fuel lines in, peddle box fitted etc.
And the reason for the list is so, like this afternoon I got home and could have easily succumed to the Singapore GP practice, but binstead went to the list and made the console cover.
In between Ive fitted new discs and calipers to the GEM.

You are giving me some impetus to get cracking after a couple of weeks lulled performance

Finally got a couple of jobs finished on my Tuscan V6 and after 10 months of ownership took the old heap for a drive !!! Bloody lovely. Very noisy (in a good way) really quite quick and with steering which nearly had me off the road at the 1st bend !!
Fabulous.

Some pictures Sandy?Fabulous.

Anyway this week I've been doing work in footwells, fitting the accelerator peddle and cable, making and fitting a CPU bracket and EPU bracket, which means I've been mostly banging my head on things, swearing and bleeding.
I'm considering going to one of these phycic head bump readers and seeing if I can get next weeks lottery numbers.

John did your can come with spreader plate (as fitted to later M series), if not they should be added, IMHO unless the threads are U/S (I would helicoil as 5/16 UNF) no reason to change.

I do think I have spreaders, I think I made some in stainless some time ago, but if not I'll remake, thanks for the reminder.
The only reason I'm thinking of M8 is -
1 - I have the M8 helicoil kit
2 - I have loads of Stainless M8 sets.
3 - It will match all the othe peripheries that are now changed to metric
4 I havn't got any stainless UNF sets.
But sounds like you've helicoild these so that'll do for me.
John, Helicoils are perfect as a structural component on low strength materials, and effect good repairs of thread... as you have the sets in M8 etc.... Even with the plates I am still using penny/plain/spring washers.
