We converted the Original Speedo to Electric using Jaguar internals and it has a signal from the Differential to calibrate we have a magic box from the USA that can be adjusted to get an accurate reading depending on Tyre size behind the dash.

Spent most of the day finishing off the Number plate for the Tuscan Using the period cast ACE numbers and letters and a set for a friends MK1 Vixen which is also going up to the NEC Next week
Its a rather fiddly job but pleased with the results each one drilled and tapped and then studs with thread lock as there is only about three to 4 turns on the stud.
Still the Vixen to do but will do that when the bonnets off later in the winter.

They're illegal in this country as well!

If they had been Plastic 3 1/8" raised letters in Silver then they would have been both originally correct and also period correct.
3.5" numerals are period correct for 1963 or earlier registered vehicles.

Currently they only produce 3.5 they went smaller when numbers went from 6 to 7 digits Neil which i am very happy with as for plastic or cast its a matter of preference personally i prefer the quality of the cast ones and certainly would not fit plastic but everyone to there own

I believe the original raised letters were in 3 1/8" white. They were also plastic of some description. Surely these weren't always "illegal" in the UK. Perhaps TVR might have bent the law but Lotus and others as well ignoring the law? If they were legal in the UK when the car was originally built then surely they must still be legal today?

You can tell I'm not purist because I went for silver letters. Not as smart as your letters and numbers Andrew but weigh a whole lot less!

I was referring to the incorrect too large and wrongly spaced version in the wrong material above.
The 3 1/8 " versions are correct and legal for the period. They were silver but I think in other instances also white, possibly dependant upon the year the car came out of the factory. They could well have started out as white but I have seen both on original cars.
Not sure of the logic of not wanting to use plastic numerals on a plastic car but hey ho. In my view though the larger numerals just look wrong and out of scale for the space available.

Before I post my garage updates - is a TVR 450SEAC a classic ?

Or too modern for this forum.

Obviously ALL TVR's are classics but for the purposes of Pistonheads "Classics" are (loosely) defined as pre-wedge.

I'm sure that we'd all like to hear about your garage up-dates but you may get keener audience if you post them on the "Wedge" forum (just above "Classics" on the PH index).

The SEAC is very much a classic TVR IMO and I would love to see your updates on here rather than miss them as I rarely post on the wedge forum. smile

My OCD couldn't be able to cope with that lack of straight bottom edge Andrew. Apologies if the numbers are still to be finally aligned.

Is it legal? No less so than the the previous stick-on plate. smile

My Vixen S2 had silver letters/number from new as seen in the (colour) press shots of the car.

I think I've had every different example of plate colour, position etc on the Vixens I've owned including the sticker on the bonnet - which I liked. In my opinion the grill mounting works best for registration numbers with less than 7 characters (and one of mine had 7)

I don't recommend the metal plate under the grill as it is too exposed and would catch if the bonnet was opened on uneven ground or nosed too close to a kerb. The only reason I fixed the plate there was it was like that when new.

A Vixen I looked at very recently (not moved in several years, but may soon!) had a 6 character plate in silver mounted on the grill.
