Your restoration project and the 'sentimental' reason you purchased the car that your Father owned, brings a lump to my throat.......

I built my Tuscan V6 as a 'Kit Car' over the Xmas holiday in 1970 with my Dad, when I was 26. Dad died in 1981, but I still have fond memories of the many hours we spent together with the car.

There are not many totally original examples of these cars left, so I hope you are able to maintain as much originality as possible.

I am new to this site, but my 39 year old son has been trying to get me to join this forum for a long time.

I will try and add a couple of pictures to this brief message.

BEST OF LUCK WITH THE LONG TASK AHEAD OF YOU.
From one Tuscan V6 owner to another, welcome. That's 4 of the 101 that post here now!

It is things like this that illustrate what a great thing the interweb can be.

Chris, if your car was built over Xmas '70 and Dad's left the factory on 4th Jan '71, then yours is probably closest to how mine was originally built.

I see yours also has Zodiac vents and small indicators on the sides of the bonnet.

It is a shame that you are so far away from Lancs, as I would love the chance to have a close look at yours.

Looks very nice in silver, btw.

My Tuscan was originally Ford 'silver fox', but over the years it changed to a matt, 'battleship grey'...... So when it was restored in 1996, by Jim Gamsby, I asked him to spray it in BMW 'Polaris Silver' to match my BMW M 635 CSi.

Jim did such a brilliant job on the restoration, that it still looks absolutely brilliant nearly 17 years later

I would be pleased to download more photos, but I have one problem and that is with the technology...

The image 'gismo' on this site only allows photos up to a certain size (2 mb) and I am not clever enough to use the 'zip' system that allows me to upload some of the hundreds of images that I have on my PC.

Chris,

If you have Microsoft Office on your PC it comes with a program called picture manager. You can find it in the Start Menu by typing the name into the search box.

If you open your picture using this you can compress it and save a compressed copy.

Open the picture
Click "edit picture" in the top banner
This opens a new window (on the right on my PC)
At the bottom of this new window is an option "compress pictures"
click this and choose "web pages" then OK
This compresses the image to less than 2Mb.
Save it with a new name so you dont over write the original picture and there you go

PH

My chassis number is 9 earlier than yours, but I presume that Vixens were included in this numbering system, as the final number on my logbook is " /6 " (as is yours)........ Presumably Vixen numbers ended in " /4 ".

If you or anybody on your forum wants to ask me any questions, then I will be glad to answer them.

PH, You also have a standing invitation to visit and see my car if you ever get down to Surrey.

The last V6 Tuscan made has recently been restored and featured in TVRCC magazine Sprint, the month after mine was featured. That was June/July 2011.

A mate of mine, locally, has (I believe) the first manufactured Tuscan V6. It was the John Britten demonstrator that I drove in 1970. It is dark metallic green and in his barn awaiting restoration (unless of course he has sold it since I last spoke to him)

It's a small world.

When I bought a 3000M in 1976 I joined the TVR Car Club and the first copy of Sprint I received was issue no.21 (Nov 1976). In it was a letter from Chris Slyfield about his experiences with SLY 371 including something about rear-end clonks?. Having left the club I re-joined in the summer of 2011 and the featured car was........ yes, Chris Slyfield's Tuscan V6 SLY 371! I look forward to seeing it at the Pre-80s and also Pat's Tuscan when it is finished.

I've pretty much always been dealt a sh*t hand in life.
I scrimped and saved for a S2 Vixen in 1987 that I'd seen locally (WPE111G)
At that time my (so called) girlfriend had a Mk2 Cooper that I had done up and advertised (White/Black G Reg)The days of Exchange &Mart/Autotrader.
We had already found a Black Tulip RWA midget to replace the mini, she had no taste.
Saturday comes, two blokes, they're all over the cooper, yep she's cosher we'll give you full asking price.Job done.
2nd arrival an hour later .... Bloke turns up in a 'H' plate white V6 Tuscan.I was just about doing my wotsits as you can imagine !!
He is well pissed off (Kin ell traffic) etc YOU'VE SOLD IT ALREADY !!
He says I can't believe it,I was hoping to do a p/X ... I HATE THIS THING AND SO DOES MY GIRLFRIEND. I pointed out my Vixen and he couldn't have given a sh*t.
Perhaps a time machine is in order ?!!

Monsun

The clonks from the rear suspension disappeared after the car was 'rejuvinated' by Jim Gamsby in 1996.

On another point..... I did have the roof parting company with the top of the windscreen in 1971, when I was following an XK 140 (I believe) up the M1 at top speed......

Another tip. When I have the tracking adjusted on the front wheels, I always insist that I sit in the drivers seat of the car, otherwise the inside edge of the offside front tyre always wears very quickly (no track control arms?)
