New build, old school shell on later spec chassis - discuss?
Discussion
I think it's a great idea as long as you're happy with it. I've often thought of doing the same.
I'd disagree with some of these earlier posts. The Thurner chassis and wishbone set up is hopeless for anything with any power, cornering ability or braking ability. Just look at the original rear wishbones - especially bottom one! Plus a pathetic anti-roll bar (front only). There was a reason for four springs at the back of the Tuscans/Griffs - to try to compensate for the twisting of the suspension. The M series chassis and suspension set up is massively better and the later Griffith/Chimera is possibly little better still although I can't detect it by driving (maybe that says more about my crap driving). I've owned all.
Don't stop at a TVR shell. Once you've done that you can stick a different shell on and build up a fleet of shells which will all work :-)

Thanks for comments...quick update, progress slower than i had hoped due to having to work for a living (what a bore!) brother and myself stripped off the chimaera donor shell last week and tried the rolling chassis under the tub. Much easier to fit having no front end, so can fit or remove whilst manifolds stay in place too.
Should just fit under bonnet...
Increased clearances to work in engine bay..
next job is try the bonnet on and site the radiator, will need to fabricate a small framework to hold rad and bonnet hinge, front crash protection etc.. all good fun.
Love this thread.......great work
Saw these 2 adverts and got me thinking :-)

slow progress but decided to not use the vixen bonnet and get back on with the recreation of the taimar bonnet. Adjusted ride height of the chassis to set it correct with the ground, then lowered the front of the tub to give it a bit of rake (attitude).
Thinking of going 215 or 225/45/17s on the compo's so built up the existing tyres just to see what it would look like in the current arches.
Needs to be road usable too so dont want to drop front too far down. Next thing is to look at front edge and grill, and decide if i want any bonnet vents...

Hi Andrew, I might take you up on it as I am now going back along the route of a more taimar looking front. Just difficult to get it back up to Cambs without spending £50 on carriage. Leave it with me and I will see if something can be sorted, it will certainly be helpful on the reconstruction. Thanks, Phil.
