I thought that others my like seeing this picture of the men at TVR during the day! The description on the back was written by Trevor many years ago. Sorry for the poor quality, but I do not own a scanner.
Thanks much, Andrew for posting.

Yes, a fascinating shot of the M prototype. How we would love to have a poke around that today...

Oliver.

However the radiator style is more 12/60 than 12/40, that is 1930's rather than early 1920s. smile

Edit to Add.
The car is listed in the first (1967) edition of Hull and Johnson, The Vintage Alvis.

SK1728 Registered 23.3.31 TJ series 12/50, DHC body, last known owner, J Jacques in Blackpool.

It doesn't appear in the current members list.

Thanks for that! Hoping it still exists and the owner has the history.

idea not really an idea but...
This picture appeared in an earlier thread...BUT a chassis plate from this era (Beverley Grove) didn't just magically appear...in this era a pretty pressed item has to be a considered business decision, we are not talking screen printing on to a waste piece of alloy here (as the M series, but that is another story), discuss anyone.

Sorry Steve (if you read this), but for not wanting to say too much your comments have raised questions off-line, that said, I would love to see/hear your thoughts on any TVR subject.

That is the correct chassis plate for a MKI. Mine has never been removed and looks just like it. These are available new at the mo.

Two questions about this:

As far as I know "F" stands for a Ford engined car, "FS" for a car with Ford engine and supercharger. But both combinations in one chassis number?

And where is the "7" used for Grantura chassis numbers? I would like to tend that the first "F" should be a "7" and they took the wrong stamp, but with car #118 I would not expect such mistake?

Your thoughts/comments?

You are correct. I have seen original tags with the letters on their sides,as well.
Maybe down to many pints at lunch?

A Rochdale-bodied TVR chassis awaits completion inside the Beverly Grove workshops.

Just came across this, and thought there was more than a passing resemblance.

IHi, tvr enthusiasts, I have finally managed to find our that my brother cited in the above contacted you in 2014 and posted a couple of pics of my car that i bought from Trevor Wilkinson circa 1958 or 9.
If anyone is interested, I do have one or two more pics of the car but, being a new member on PistonHeads, I'm not sure how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in anticipation

Roger,

I'm researching TVR racing history and would be interested to hear more of your car. The registration EFV 748 was on 2 earlier cars, TVR No. 1 and the one before yours an Open RGS sports Hillclimbed by Jim Hacking at Barbon in May 1955. At this time it had a 1467 MG engine. I understand the RGS body was removed sold and either a new car was built or the A40 based chassis was rebodied with the Rochdale C Type body. I'm trying to trace possibly another car from this time (1956) raced at Aintree by Ian S Munn, however his car had a 1305 cc engine (I guess a bored out 1250 MG). Can you tell more history engine size (1500) and if possible where and when you sold the car.

If you need help posting photos send me an email.

Roger Cramphorn sent through these photos of his Rochdale bodied TVR. Roger purchased the car directly from Trevor Wilkinson at Hoo Hill in 1957. The car is registered EFV 748 which is the same as TVR No.1 and the RGS open sports as seen at Barbon in 1955. It has a 1500cc BMC engine, A40 based wishbone front suspension but either Morris or VW based torsion bar suspension at the rear. The diff was located via an A frame derived from Ferguson parts. Roger said the car was originally built for Trevor's wife and includes a Zephyr windscreen as found on later Granturas. The Rochdale C Type body was taken from a mould of a Connaught. It appears that this C type is slightly different to one shown in Filby's book. Roger kept the car until 1963 when it was sold to a neighbour in Rugby. Does it still exist.

There is a MRT Jaguar for sale at Marreyt Classics in Belgium, the special was one of 5 built by a Mr Tom.inson. Interestingly they say that the RGS body mold came from an HWM. Could it be this car.

Rob
that looks similar from front:
