Hi all,

Getting some se arches for mine and wondered if anyone knows what size the alloys need to be to fill the arches?

Cheers

Hi Mate,

My 3000M SE has Compomotive 3 piece alloys fitted, the actual wheel size I can't give you at the moment as I'm out of the country but the tyre size I have fitted is 205 X 70 X 14

Once you've got the wheels fitted to your car can you post a pic on to this thread as I'm looking to fit another set of wheels on to my car and keep the Compomotive's for using as show wheels only.

I'm not sure what the original SE's were on, some one will be along soon with that info.
I had mine done in the early eighties and had 15 x 7.5 J on the front and 15 x 8J on the rear with 205 x 50 x 15 front and 225 x 50 x 15 rear.
The thing to watch is the front offset so you don't catch your wishbones on full lock.

There are lots of variations of sizes on SE's and you have a lot of choice.
I would look at what size rubber is readily available now when deciding.

I suspect if I was looking for something now I would be thinking at least 16 inch and maybe even to 18 inch.

Yes, that is by far the hardest bit of the spec to match, an ET of about -2mm IIRC

Jonathan

BTW I'd also price up tyres and availabilty, 16" all round with 205/55/16 gives good prices and availability.

I thought that the originals were 14in 7J with 205/70, but I could be wrong.

I had 15x7J 205/55 and 15x9J 225/50 on a standard car, but it could have done with SE arches for clearance, as the fronts were slightly proud and the rears would kiss the arch (even with part of the lip removed) on full suspension travel.

You are in a difficult position, as you need something that looks right for the period of the car, and that you can source decent rubber for. One additional thing, is that when M series cars are taken off their original sized rubber and put on modern lower profile rubber, it alters the handling of the car dramatically. Aquaplanning is far more likely, and the car will no longer drift about so easily, the tyres will give little warning regarding a loss of adhesion, and you will need to be much faster to catch it!!
