More sensible price this time allowing for a nice restoration
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161360324148?_trksid=p20...
I may be wrong but give this to the right engineer and you may have the right engine to put in her as well
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coventry-Climax-firepump...
Or go to someone like Mike and get him to build a beauty for her if the funds where not needed elsewhere for the new business I would be really tempted as a Climax engine car and an MG powered car would just complete the collection we can all dream hehe

Simply build to period yes some would prefer numbers matching etc etc however within Classic TVR owners I don't think that's quite as important
Nice to have but a really well done period restoration would be an equally nice car

That Climax fire pump engine looks mighty expensive for something that I believe requires around £2k spending on to convert it to road spec. Are they really that pricey now?

The one we bought didn't cost that and last time I looked in the old man's garage it was in far better condition...

It was the only example I could find on there Oliver so really was just an example yes sounds a lot but I believe the Climax engines are not exactly cheap but from my side I would have to do a lot of research.
You can get an Essex V6 fairly cheaply or you can have a really well done one from Ric Wood you pays your money and takes your chance
I would suspect its not that different with the Climax Engine but with a lot more period cars using them they seem to be in shorter supply.

on classic Lotus you can find the chassis/unit number written Under the roof lining or behind door panels.
Was this also the practice at TVR?

No. Early cars are void of a roof lining anyway.

John, as far as I know it is still sitting just inside the garage door on the left hand side, since he is an even bigger hoarder than me I bet he hasn't got rid of it without letting me know!

Andrew, yes I think there is a lot of variance in Climax prices. We bought an old fire pump engine with the intention to convert it, and I am sure even then it was about £2k to do. I don't think fire pump engines are that rare, and does anyone need a fire pump, but properly converted FWE engines are.

Well if prices keep rising like they are and if he keeps burning money running around Europe in his Morgan +8 he will be hanging onto it as it's becoming a second pension!

The engine which was removed was a 1600 cc unit, again origin unknown, but the original engine number is on the log book.
That, and a little research, should help. If the age appropriate Climax engines have similar numbers, that would be possible. On the other hand, I thought those were 1500cc. Judging by displacement, wouldn't it more likely have been an MGA lump?

Best,
B.

Or should my Mother ever order him to declutter the garage! Mind you, he'd then only refill it with Morgan bits...

Nice devaluation for a Grantura.
Not for the seller but the buyer.
Started £ 15.000
Nearly sold.
New asking price £ 10.000
Now sold at £ 5.800

OR NOT SOLD that's the question???...

For that money I want a "non original" Grantura, which I will happily change to non original fast car.

Not sure if things get lost in translation but it did not hit reserve there was a buy it now price of £10000 and i Believe the e bay rules are that a reserve when there is a buy it now has to be 20% lower than the buy it now price so using my maths a buyer could have had the project for just under 9k.
At that price i just dont think there are any real buyers out there for Grantura projects they either want a fully authenticated car with everthing there at pocket money prices or they are just not there.

The real buyers are out there, they are just careful what they spend their money on, am sure when the right one comes along it will get snapped up.

Well good luck to them wink but if they think that a rare time warp car is going to pop up for peanuts with the engine they want etc then maybe its a long wait.
