It has already been pointed out that the recommended camber settings in the Vixen 2500 handbook are questionable. This reminded me of some other details that seem a little odd.

The Vixen 2500 handbook states the fuel should have a minimum octane rating of 100 (Research Method), yet this is for a low compression engine.

In the 2500/3000 M handbook it states the 2500 should have a minimim of 92 octane (Research Method) fuel.

The 2500/3000 M handbook states that the maximum variation in the compressions over the six cylinders is 5 lbs per square inch. I thought 10% was considered the maximum variance.

The suggested sequence for checking and adjusting the valve clearances for the 2500, which is the same as the Haynes Manual for the TR6 seems to be incorrect. When I adjusted mine last year I came to the conclusion that if you read the sequence from bottom to top you will minimise the turning over of the engine. Others on Triumph forums have also found this anomaly.

The dry weight excluding extra equipment in the Vixen 2500 book is stated at 2280 lbs. The Hot Car road test of the Vixen 2500 puts the weight at 17 cwt (1904 lbs) and the Motor road test of the Tuscan V6 states the kerb weight (unladen with fuel for approx 50 miles) as 17 3/4 cwt (1988 lbs).

It's nice to have the handbook for the car but I don't think it should be entirely trusted.

I'm reviewing some Component Maintenance Manuals for an Aerospace Company, which are at revision 4, and you couldn't actually take the subassembly apart, and put it together if you attempt to follow the Manual. Which is probably why they get returned to the original manufacturer to be rebuilt.

regarding the weight, i have seen figures mostly around 1000kgs for the tuscan

while the quoted figure for vixen is around 750kgs. Quite a big difference

My stripped out race Grantura is not much less than 750kgs. OK so it has a full roll cage but no trim, lightweight seat etc. I would be surprised if a roadgoing Vixen gets under 800kgs, although the engine is lighter.

Doesn't anyone weigh their cars? We have enough questions about camber angles and ride height but nobody does corner weights.......

Full race vixen I built came out to 1750lbs. SCCA has minimum weight for racing here.
That was on combined corner weights.

I was always going to good John...As I have cornerweight scales and record every session. I attended the Griff Growl, inviting/ offering M and Vixen people with ride height adjustable spring sets to turn up and put them on, for charity and at £10.00 a pop...sadly I had no takers.

John, impressive weight for an Essex engined M, would be interesting to know what Bert Zimmermans car weighed before he went all Cosworth and Asro

Adrian, £10 for corner weighting is an absolute bargain, corner weighting my car was probably the best thing that I had done to it, once properly set up these old cars can really go round corners fast. I would recommend to anyone who wants a spirited drive to get their car corner weighted by you!

HSCC minimum permitted weights for vixen is 737 kg
and for a griffiths v8 900kg (so v6 probably a bit less)
