Has anyone any experience of putting an engine out of an S1 or S2 in a 3000m. I have an engine and 5 speed box out of an S2 - IT IS 2.9EFI. I had a look and the dimensions look ok - has anyone done this conversion. My old essex engine is a bit tired , but not too bad, however I think I would rather have the fifth gear to help on long journeys.

Comments/experiences welcome.

TIA

No and yes we just put a heavy duty 5 speed on the Taimar 3LT essex great for long runs but I actually prefer the 4 speed as there is more torque especially with a well tuned engine pulls IMOP better than the 5 speed

Sounds like a good idea, the fifth gear in that box (type 9) is an overdrive in effect, fourth gear being 1 to 1

Bonnet clearance may be an issue? The 2.9 with its injection could be a bit taller than the Essex with a carb and air filter scratchchin

Thanks - it looks like a fit. Custom exhaust headers.

Yes, if you use an engine from a XR4i the manifolds won't fit but the "forward and under" S series manifolds may fit (with a bit of tweaking) wink

The engine is out of an S1 OR 2 (not sure) and has the swept forward manifolds - I will offer it into the space and see how things go smile

think S1 would have been the 2.8, two exhaust port per head engine, TVR used the cast Ford manifolds but fitted them back to front so they swept forward.
2.9, three port heads, had purpose made tubular manifolds.

Is it being converted back for road use?
