Some people may have picked up on Andrew "Pridaux" Grays reference to a trophy to be awarded at the pre 1980s meeting for the "preservation class" (his words), so to try to encourage some enthusiasm I thought I would give a bit of a preview of the award.

Hand made and bit different to the generic resin trophies of late the idea is to encourage people to drive and look after their cars instead of just polishing them and leaving them in the garage. Originality but balanced with regular use will be the key factors, obviously some cars are over 50 years old so older restorations will be elligible but there are already awards for fresh restorations and heavily modified cars.

It will be awarded annually and the winner will keep the trophy ( along with a resin trophy to keep) till a couple of weeks before the next award ready for the next winner, hopefully it will eventually turn into a "wall of fame" and be something people aspire to winning.

I,m not sure if I will be able to attend to judge and award it for the first time but there will be people who are well experienced to make what I hope is a difficult decision.

In true TVR fashion the trophy will not be fully ready for the winner, I gave it to a shop to do the engraving and fit the shields and they made a right royal 4 cup of so after the event it will be taken away, completely remade and sent on to the winner.

Apologies for the poor photography, I do know how to photograph rounded reflexive objects, not easy, but I don't have a light box big enough.

Hope the gathering goes well and the weather is kind.

sTeVeR.

Great award Steve. Nothing better than cars that are used, enjoyed and even a bit abused. Patina and well worn scar's get my vote every time smile

Very Very nice and well thought out Trophy.
I think a Trophy worthy of the very best TVR's.

I was hoping that the other Piss-t-an Broke category would have been represented where I would have more chance of an award.

A Lovely Thought and gesture Mr Reid.

I am dreaming of winning this trophy from THE TVR Man himself.
Good idea.

Pitty the dream does not come through because of a waterpool between my home and the meeting.

Have a nice day and let all of the attendees feel like a winner.

But surely that is the point, the water is exactly the same if I travel from UK to a Holland as it is from Holland to UK. It has never stopped me going to Zolder or Le Mans or Oldtimer or Spa or Angouleme or Monaco Hisorique or Techno Classica or Portimao. You just have to want to.

What a great idea and one that celebrates the type of car that I always enjoy seeing the most.

Great idea, using a car for what it was designed for has to be the right way to go. I hope you can award the trophy to a worthy recipient.

Wish I could be there tomorrow, but sadly it is not possible.

Have a good time everybody

Dave

Hi Steve,
Oh but I realy want so.
Went there for tour though Scotland, following The Romantic Route, Goodwood (when cost were down to 12 GBP), Donington, Silverstone, Bristol , Brighton and visited Cambridge motor sport with some pretty fast TVR's ASO.
But not for a TVR meeting yet.
First finish the Vixen and than maybe you will invite me.
Oh and I want to buy a TVR ensign on the engine cover from you if possible?.

You dont need a TVR or wait for an invitation. I have turned up on several occasions in a van, and everyone is more than welcome, get yourself over to the next one, you will enjoy it - and you have 12 months to plan it read

As some may be aware that attended this years Pre 80s event there was a new and Special award called the Broken Piston award.
This award has been kindly commissioned by Steve and Lili Reid or sTeVe as often written.
However on the day the award was not really fully finished as the company making the base had not done it correctly so it had to go back and after many miles back and forth for them both the final award is finished and on it way to its most deserving winner for this year.
This award is owned by the Reid Family and each year will be passed on to the next years winner and I am sure will be an award that will be very much cherished as it passes on to the next recipient.
I know for myself as the years pass it will be a reminder of the Great contribution Steve has made to these old wonderful cars and I know that I and many 1000s of people have valued his knowledge and advice and rusty rare part that he has been able to put his hands on and new parts as well but more than that the great knowledge he has readily shared.
A big Thank you to Both yourself and Lili and each year I will hold my breath and maybe one year have the pleasure of having it on the shelf for the year.

Earlier in the thread Steve has explained what the award is for and this years winner Howard Jensen with his wonderful Taimar was a worthy Winner

Howard bought his Taimar in March 1979 new and has owned it now for 35 years and the car has been cared for loved and enjoyed all those years and in continual use what a fantastic winner to have as the first name on the award well done Howard.
