Who was the original supplier for 2500M steering wheels? Mine was 'upgraded' by previous owner to some tiny 10 or 11" diner plate. It appears to have the original Lucas, bakelite horn push (no TVR logo) but I'm not sure. It's a 73 if it matters, pictures would be appreciated too.

My car's original wheel was about that diameter. Post a picture, and we'll argue about, er, . . . I mean, tell you, whether it's original.

Best,
B.

Sadly a 3000S bears no relationship to the earlier cars ...which were Moto-lita or Astralli, dependant on bolt pattern on the boss, IF it is a moto-lita, then that restricts you a bit ...

if i compare the hole in the middle of the MotoLita to locate the hub on my 1600M it is a lot smaller than on more recent MotoLita wheels

when i first bought my 1600M i had the idea to buy a new centre for the MotoLita but they seem too big now, so i will stay with the machined and engraved special centre

The early TVR vixen cars fitted with the motolita wheel were fitted with a small boss. I'm not sure if these were bespoke to TVR or if some of the Triumph models had a small boss as well.

so my 1975 1600M has a Vixen MotoLita fitted. The centre for the hornpush looks the same diameter as a Morris Minor hornpush
the hole is 49mm Dia for the hornpush to go into

This is what's in there now. It has no markings that I can find on it. Any ideas?

Yes, maybe? It has no markings but looks similar. What would it have had new? Or more importantly, anyone know of a source for a replacement?

Don't know if this is of any help, but here's a picture of the Mountney steering wheel and horn push that came with my 1974 2500M. Whether it's factory original or not...?

The original OE steering wheel for TVR Vixen S2 to early M Series cars (with Vixenstyle dashboards) was small boss Motalita. 13" with thick grip black leather covered rim. 3 spokes at 3 o,clock, 6 o,clock and 9 o,clock. Most has 3 round holes on spokes, occasionally supplied with 2 holes. Majority were anodised black but occasionally polished were fitted, ? Customer request?. All fitted with thumb grips on spokes ans engraved "Motalita". The wheel was attached to the boss with 8 countersunk slot headed fasteners with anti shake washer and unf nylon nuts.

Mountney wheels were NEVER fitted as OE, the company did not exist till about 1990 and supplied quite nasty cheap aftermarket steering wheels, usually trimmed in vinyl.

Original wheels are very rare with the small boss. I have a few used ones but new ones don't exist. In the past I have had them refurbished by Motalita and the results are excellent.

For some reason I cannot upload pics onto PH but will try again later, maybe a system fault .

On my Vixen I have a Black 14inch non dished Moto Lita wheel and although the later Boss as it was replaced at several points in its life even after it went to Germany it was changed again and I must say its very comfy to use but we are all different sizes and arm lengths and driving styles so IMOP unless your determined to have it exactly OE this one is close certainly in look but most importantly what you feel happy driving with as the car is for using not just looking at athough that is fun as well

Looks pretty but unless you have driven with real thing you your not forming an opinion based on a true comparison.

Your wheel is approximately 17% greater circumference therefore 17% lower geared so 17% less responsive. Ok on an MGB but not as good on a thoroughbred sports car IMOP??

Why compromise?

No Steve your right
However when it comes to steering wheels there is a presumption that one size fits all when it comes to driving and that's really not the case hence why they are so often changed over the years Especially on cars that have had lots of different owners looking at cars that come up for sale it seems that the one or two owner cars often have the original wheel.
I have three different wheels on the different cars as each car has a different seating position even the Tuscan and the Vixen are different due to the different seats.
I personally prefer a larger wheel the Tuscan had a 12 inch when I got it and I hated it.
I have a 13in Dished Moto Lita and a wood 14 inch flat for the Tuscan and will switch to the 13inch for track days when that happens.
A
No, your wrong. I,m not right, it's 7%.. 2 x pi x R. I used pi x R x R. Sorry.

Bit irrelevant. If OP wants the real thing no ammount of justifying using the wrong thing is relevant.

Andy, I will be posting my latest steering wheel purchase soon, from that great source E-Bay.

With it, I will also be posting a photo of my new home: a cardboard container just outside my fence, with Wi Fi and drapes.

I don't need much...

Just out of interest, what wheel is this? It's taken from one of the original S2 brochures
