Congratulations! This car seems to have been stored in a very well insulated garage. Despite all your success, I would spend the winter stripping it down to get rid of all those bits (and there will be quite a few)) that might just disintegrate the moment you take it out for a spin! Lovely car.

Congratulations. Great post.

Fill the cracks with clear epoxy, clamp, sand the old vanish off, apply new varnish, done.

Best,
B.

Great to see These interior pics, e.g. that your car has the smaller speedo and rev type. Mine is the same.

Where is the horn switch? Still the wheel center? Or do you have another switch like the one for the indicator ligth?

it really depends on what your definition of a "good deal" actually is..
How much are you looking to sell the car for?
Putting a price on it usually finds out if there is any seriuos interest, or was the thread here a ruse to stir up interest in a more speculative fashion.... biggrin

No it was not a ruse at all and as I am new to TVRs I did not really know what a realistic price was for my Grantura hence the reason I have advertised it on ebay to see what the market dictates as a price.
Everyone says that these cars are quite valuable and a recent Grantura, that needed a lot of work and had several parts missing, recently sold for £10,600 so I feel that would be a reasonable price. Unfortunately I have had a few people on here who know what prices these cars are worth a lot better than I do contact me and make very low offers for the car knowing full well that their offers are far short of what would be a fair and reasonable price ie £5,000,
The car that you mention that went for over 10K had a special history to it and the price reflected that. That is the most I have seen a MK1 resto project (box of bits)go for.

The last MK2a that I saw on ebay was back in Dec 2012 reg 2867WD, it didnt look as clean as yours and had not run in 30 years, but was a complete car and had been stored in a garage. It went for £7610

As prices seem to be on the rise you would probably be best to let the auction run to get the best price for it. IMOP

I assume that the fair price to sell at would be a couple of hundred quid more than the price you purchased it for off your mothers elderly neighbour?

A couple of hundred quid would seem a fair price to reflect the cost of a jet wash and a couple of hours of time??

You sent me a PM message saying that you were interested in buying the car and I did reply to you but I never heard from you again so I take it that you are now no longer interested in buying the car?
Yes you are right about letting the auction run and at this present time I have 4 people coming to see the car (one from abroad on Saturday) so you never know what might happen.
I have replied to you.

Well after only having the car for a very short time I have tonight put it up for sale on ebay. I was intending to have the car taken to a bodyshop for a repaint but that idea has now changed and I have decided to sell this car and look around for an early TVR that has had the majority of the work already done. To be honest I am very interested in the Griffith that is for sale in France but it will probably be gone by the time my car sells.
If it has then I will still be on the lookout for another nice early car.

I was considering advertising the car on one of the classic car sites but I thought that ebay would probably get the car seen by more people and hopefully attract an interested TVR enthusiast which I would like to see this car sell to. Unfortunately ebay also has its fair share of time wasters as well so I might have to weed a few of these out.

Anyway let's see how the auction progresses and what sort of price it attains. I can always remove it from ebay if I need to.
I hadn't noticed an early Griffith for Sale in France. Any details?

Within minutes of listing my auction on ebay your father, as you now say he is, offered me £8000 for the car which I politely refused. I explained that I had only just listed the car and yes I used the other Grantura that sold recently as a benchmark as to what price I would accept as I was not sure of a fair price for the car.

I have obviously ruffled a few feathers on here by placing the Grantura up for sale so therefore I will not be discussing the sale of the car any further here on the forum and either leave it for sale on ebay or possibly accept a reasonable offer that I might receive for it. Shame really...
I see absolutely no issue what so ever with someone buying and selling on at a profit, thats the way of the world. Cant see why anyone should get upset, unless its simple jealousy as they didnt get there first wink , if you arent happy then just make an offer at the price you are happy with if its not enough you wont buy it laugh
Odd comment regarding "as you now say he is.." though..
He spends the majority of his time sat in front of his laptop as he is unable to walk and cant get out, the last car he bought I picked up for him knowing full well that it would sit in a garage as he couldnt even get into it, let alone drive it, I just hope that I am still as enthusiastic at his age...even if my health deteriorates as far as his has. smile
I was surprised as I had left him quite late last night.

Seems as though I am on trial here the way that I am being spoken about lol.
Yes I have owned several early Porsche 911 cars and enjoyed owning them. I have also owned an Aston DBS and a DB6 in the not so distant past as well.
This was my first TVR and I liked the car very much however my plans for the car changed and Put the car up for sale.
All of this is now erelevant as I have within the last 30 mins sold the Grantura.

Thank you.
I was actually bidding keenly on the car frown.... Hope you "enjoy" your undoubted profit.

Interesting thread, just noticed it. It would surely help TVR owners hugely if there was an indication of even a rough price range for the sale as I'm sure it's no huge secret to withhold, unless the buyer wants to be ultra discreet or unless the elderly neighbour ...ahem cough...splutter... sold it cheap. It's good to have yardsticks.
