what i would like to know is how do you decide what coil to fit.
On my 3000S it has "Piranha Electronic Ignition" but the ballast resistor is still wired in to the circuit.
The coil that has been fitted is "202 12V Ballast ident on bottom B/1624 1211".
Surely it should be a 9 Volt coil for the Ballast and also a high resistance above 1.5 for the Electronic Ignition.
The question is, should i bin the Ballast and fit a High resistance coil .
When i drive the car and it's cold no problem but when it has warmed up it starts to miss at low revs and the Coil gets very very hot.confused

My ballast resistor failed, just chopped it out of the circuit and fitted a new 12v one.

Also fitted EI at the same time. Was told alsorts about the coil saying it had to be a special one for EI, still fitted a standard coil and 2 years on its ok.

I was advised and did remove all suppresors from the dizzy system, truth or not but they can damage/kill EI.

However if some can verify this please so!

thanks Whitewolf,
that's exactly what i thought i would do.
Bin Ballast and the 2 condensers either side of coil bracket.
Fit new 12V coil with 1.5 ohms to 3.0 ohms . Position it as high and as far away as possible from the exhaust manifold to be cool.
I borrowed the normal coil from my 1600M and took the 3000S for a run along the Brittany Coast with the Hood down.
Fantastic with the music from the V6, who needs a Radiobounce
