The drivetrain is now a 5.0L HO Ford 302 V8 mated to a 5-speed Borg-Warner T5 gearbox and a Jaguar 3:54 Salisbury differential. This combination is as reliable as a hammer and provides nice acceleration while at the same time great highway cruising ability with 70 mph at about 2,000 rpm. Current output according to manufacturer’s specs is 225 bhp and 300 ft lbs torque. For someone who wants to go wild this provides a nice starting platform that has not been abused, but for me it’s more than adequate.

Not in any way to run down those conversions, which are beautiful, but aren't there more modern multivalve engines which are lighter and more powerful than the 'ancient' 302 ?

Just sayin' - there's got to be a huge range of choices as well as the 302, and probably smaller and easier to fit, say one of the many 60 degree V6 or L6 engines, or even a 4 cyl 16 valve turbo ???

Although I can understand wanting that wonderful V8 burble from the tailpipes.....

That black car looks like one I saw in Tampa, years ago.

The great thing about a 302 conversion, is that it can look absolutely period correct, AND make a lot of power.

Best,
B.
