I've got the TR6 cast iron manifold but nothing else. Any suggestions for an off-the-shelf system that would suit with little or no modification? Have touted round the exhaust 'specialists' but no joy other than an offer to measure up and do it for £750 plus the VAT. I can't even work out if the original was single or twin pipes at the rear, there are pictures showing both.

What do people fit?

TVR exhausts would be the silly answer,

plus a standard TVR exhaust with twin tail pipes

Good question. The 1971 Hot Car Road test shows the 2500 with a single tailpipe of what looks like quite a small diameter. The 2500 spec sheet - the one with the chassis and running gear pic at the bottom right again shows a single tailpipe. On checking with a magnifying glass, it looks like it has a single silencer.

As far as I know, the early TR6 manifold with the twin twin outlets is correct for the car. I think later ones had the single outlet / down pipe.

Did the Vixen 1600 have a single or twin silencers as standard? Could both cars have used the same rear part of the exhaust?

I thought I'd try TR6 down pipes with a 'Y' connector into a single pipe running under the centre of the chassis to a rear box but not sure about ground clearance or whether the TR6 item will line up as the pipes on that car kink to the side. It's tricky at the moment as engine not in. I just wanted to avoid an expensive bespoke system if off the shelf stuff would do the job.

I've just found out from some very knowledgeable sources that the US Vixen 2500 had twin tail pipes. I wasn't aware of this. Perhaps the UK 2500s were different. I've also gone though the bits of literature I have and realise that the Fact Sheets aren't all that reliable. One of the 2500 sheets - the one with the engine bay pic in the bottom right shows what looks like a 1300 engine.

Good luck with the exhaust and let us know how you get on.

Historically the cars have tail pipes matched to the engines...(even when the main box system is the same). The later 2500 Vixen has the same box system as the 1600M (which gets retained for the 2500M), the difference is after the box is a 1 into 2 unit for twin tail pipes out of the back.
