Thanks Pete (& Marion). Apologies for never getting to say hello at Spa it was a seriously full on weekend running both TVRs. This weekend will (hopefully) be mainly sitting in a deck chair and watching the world go by interspersed with a couple of minutes of frantic wheel twirling!

Just returned from Le Mans Classic where I was racing the 1961 ex works Sunbeam Alpine 1600 with Tristan Bradfield.

A great weekend with an even more varied selection of cars than the Revival. We expected to be about 70th of 75 but I qualified us 53rd. blew a head gasket and damaged the head in the first race but after sterling work by the crew got out for the night race which we finished about 35th. We stroked her home for a finish about 30th. If you get a chance to go, do.

Next outing Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix on the cities streets, at the end of July followed by Gamma Race Days at Assen in the first weekend of August, both in the Marcos

A quick break and then Zandvoort Historic Grand Prix, Goodwood Revival and Spa 6 Hours on consecutive weekends.

Its tough, but somebody's got to do it

Richard,

Did you meet the driver of the TVR Grantura Mk2 racing in Plateau 4. Whilst Plateau 4 is correct for a 1962 TVR Mk3 I would have thought a Mk2 (if considered eligible for Le Mans at all) would be more suited to your race for slightly earlier cars.

Not exactly racing but flying the flag for old TVRs this weekend at the Chateau Impney hill climb. Went as a spectator last year and had a great day out then got an invite to compete so couldn't say no. Never done a hill climb before and the class I'm in looks seriously fast so no great expectations but will have fun. Last year TVR was represented by Ivan Dutton in the freshly restored ex-John Woolfe TVR AUD10 which has a separate thread on it as it is for sale (as featured in a certain classic car mag).

If you are around come and say hello and wish me luck!

Cheers

Dave
How did you get on. Hope it was a nice weekend.

Pete,

It was a great weekend (Chateau Impney) but certainly a different discipline to circuit racing. I was in a bizarre plateau that included sports racers so I guess just like the HSCC Guards Trophy. At one point in the run offs I got to third behind 2 sports racers but messed up my final run and ended up 5th in class (DOH) and I think 51st out of 200 competitors. To be honest I was happy with that as a hill climb virgin!

Not sure if moderators allow links but I've posted an in car on YouTube. Search for: Chateau Impney 2016 TVR Grantura DLX 8C if the link isn't allowed, otherwise.....

See you at Thruxton?

Well would you believe it - I ended up on Motors TV, albeit briefly, in my Grantura running up the Chateau Impney hillclimb.

Out at Thruxton this Saturday 13th Aug in the CSCC meeting. Tuscan V8 in the Swinging Sixties and Grantura in the Classic K race.

The meeting is being televised on Motors TV so hopefully there'll be some more TVR telly to watch.

Can't see Pete R on the entry list?

Cheers

Hi N,

That's a nasty misfortune.
When does this happend? Racing or just driving around?
Any idea why it happend?

And why is the engine support bend?

All just out of intrest and learning.

In my very limited experience, that motor needs to be broken down and hot tanked to remove the rust and other partials from last problem. The motor mount should be better agnigned and this is the side that isn't really used except for holding...meaning no torque. Are your you using a baffled sump?
Best,
D.

Crank was at 30 thou so is now set to be a nice desk lamp.
Engine will be fully stripped.
The engine spun a bearing at No 1…A Legacy from last time it was salvaged.
Not sure about the engine mount comments…I think it is just the angle the pic is taken from under the car. Mounts are perfect.

Looking at various options at the moment.

Have decided to enter the Vixen next year into a local hillclimb championship aimed at novice road going cars. Only 7 events, best 5 count. All local with 4 @ Prescott, then 1 each @ Shelsley, Loton Park & MIRA.

It's the BOC (Bugatti Owners Club) New Barn Landrover 'B' Licence Championship.

Should be fun and a shake down for both the Vixen and me, to show up all the weak points. It's 20 years since I did 2 seasons in the TVR Sprint Challenge, so I expect to be well rusty. If all goes OK the plan is to upgrade to 'A' licence and enter the BOC Aldon Automotive Championship in 2018, where there is currently at least one other Vixen competing. A bit more competitive series, so I understand.

I really don't want to fit a rollover bar and these series recommend but don't insist. Any other suggestions on car prep would be appreciated.

Don't bother with the BOC 'Championship'. Did it for 2 seasons & have found much better (& fairer) competitions around. Have a look at

Vixens do well.....
