I would Andrew, the chrome ones make the S look like its from a different, earlier, era. Spoils it for me, but then it's your car, do as you wish!

That said, if I were in need to change mine, I would take a leaf out of Colin Chapman's book, add lightness and use the glass fibre ones.

Not only are they almost indistinguishable from the rubber ones, a whole set weighs about half of a single rubber one and they will not get frost damaged.

As an added bonus, all four will cost about the same as a single new one from DG Sportscars.

See you tomorrow

Dave

I rather prefer the look of the chrome ones Dave as the car although late 70s had a retro look and style especially with the lift out screens etc so in a way the car was dated when it came out however I think that's the appeal of the Model.
I would be changing only to fit and take her closer to OE so silly to switch to non original fiberglass ones regardless of weight saving.
And you need a red car to pull off the sticker look properly laugh
Lets hope the sun comes out Tomorrow

Glad it isn't just me that thinks the 3000S is the best looking TVR yet.

Cliff, I know what mean about the photo giving you encouragement, when I first bought mine and had it in bits I had a picture of the Ex David Allison S turbo on my mantlepiece to keep me going into the garage on those long winter evenings.

So here's another one for you to drool over...

Oliver.

TVRMs's old car..... Regret not having bought that one a couple of years back.

Stickers on TVRs...... hmm I guess mine will accumulate some in the near future, but with red ones, you need them to cover up the colour... for me red is for Italian cars......there are more appropriate shades for TVRs, in fact anything but red......

Yours does look better with the stickers...but then they always do...

Love it!...

He got his bumpers right and was always a fan of Italian cars as well...

So, talking about Mr Lilley's red cars, a question for the lurkers and members of ARSE, anyone got a recent photo of the real 3000S SE Turbo?

Last time I saw it must have been early/mid 90s....

Dave

Clever link for you. The young gent who owns the SE Turbo in question previously owned and restored the car that Mr Lilley now owns.

Stuart has owned the SE for years and would probably have been the owner when you took the photos.

Red car with stickers and fibreglass bumpers, wish I had the in-destructible socks 3000s to go along side it 😎

I don't mind you don't like my blingy bumpers, as it concerns my car and I do to it as I please ......biggrin

What would look good on your silver car is 'all-black', headlight surrounds, doorhandles, the whole shebang in black !

There is a dark red Vixen like that and it looks very good in my very humble opinion !

Will this one do, the most recent photo I have of it and it is May 1998 at Blackpool. I have seen it since, and will have other pictures of it somewhere.

Quite tempting to turn this into a "how many photos of the 258 3000Ss can we post" thread.

Oliver.

Since I mentioned it, isn't this just lovely. Was owned by David Allison when I took this at Donington Park in August 1990 and the photo that kept encouraging me. Would love to know where it is now, and the Indestructible Socks car too...

Loving the photos guys and they've prompted a few questions from me please..

1) I recall a previous post on PH (in fact I think it was one of Steve's), saying that there were 10 stock body colours for the S: my guess from web images is black, met mid blue, pale solid blue, BRG, burgundy, gold, met grey, red, silver & yellow. Is this right?

2) What's the current thinking on how many S's are still around (I'm sure this must have been asked before wink). Again, based on web photos a good few appear to be LHD.

3) Indestructible Socks??

Thanks

Cliff

Regards how many left Cliff I don't know of any register however I suspect more than some may have thought like the earlier cars they keep popping up from various places where they have been stored plus the ones that don't appear on the forums etc I would guess that 70% of those made have survived in one way or another just not all on the road and like the earlier cars as values have risen the justification cost wise of restoring brings them out of the woodwork.
Higher prices have that effect on any Marque as long as they don't go silly like we have seen on that Griff 400

The club has the ones registered with members if they have logged them but only a certain number of owners do that so would be good if someone was to create a register however like the Vixen Register not all cars around are listed.

Sponsors of Colin Blowers 3000s race car in the 80s. Also red with stickers (rather nice argyle socks among others)

Enjoy your S cool

Not the best shot as I have had to scan a double page spread from Autosport October 9 1980 and haven't got all night to scan both pages separately then attempt to join them and downsize them to fit, but hopefully this shot of Colin Blower in action gives the idea. Is it just me, or do those front bumpers look rather small...

Anyway John, are you still wearing some 35 year old Indestrucible Argyle socks...

The photo of the beautiful blue turbo S, no wing mirrors, so was it raced, no way it could pass MOT without wing mirrors? Or was the car just not completed yet?

Seems like to be perfectly OE there where no Mirrors fitted as standard see MOT car requires only one mirror for the MOT so interior mirror passes the test

There is a photo of that car (in exactly the same position on the same day) on page 72 of "Sutton's Photographic History of Transport:TVR" which shows a mirror on the driver's door. I think that cars must now have one external mirror but am not sure how far back this applies for an MOT. In fact today I as working for an old chap who has owned his Wolseley "Land Crab" from new and he was saying how tricky it is to reverse out of his garage with no mirrors, but that he is not going to start drilling the wings/doors after 43 years.

I am pretty sure that the car is very original and has never been raced or sprinted.
