I’m about to change the differential bushes on my 1800S, which has the TVR casing and MGB internals. Can anyone please tell me what the part numbers are or what the donor car was?

Hi Kit,

I believe they are TR6 rear inner suspension mounts. I had som issues doing mine as the originals protruded a bit from the casting and it wasn't clear whether this was how they were meant to be. The TR6 items fit exactly front to back

The ones I removed were 1" diameter and 1 3/4" long. The first set I got were slightly too short and fitted front to back exactly. I took those out again and fitted slightly larger ones, which have the correct tube length, but once installed the rubber protrudes a little more that he originals.

You can source these rubber mounts from suppliers direct, I can't remember who I got the longer ones from but the TR6 I got from Rimmers

You'll probably need to burn them out. I tried pressing out but the vice jaws broke and the tube extension I was pulling on knocked me across the workshop - I thought I was ok just bruised until the trickle started....

Two good ways to remove them:

1. Take a drill bit that fits (easily) between the bush and the aluminium casting. Drill holes all the way round the bush and then push it out. The danger with this method is that its easy to scar the casting.

2. Use a small diameter hole cutter in a drill and cut around the bush from both sides, then push it out.

The smoke from burning them is nasty

Very nasty but doesn't take long the rubber goes quickly soft enough to push out the centre and then insert a hacksaw blade and cut the rest out, did it outdoors. If I did it again I would hear up the inner with a torch and push it out quicker. The problem is the oily rubber after that gets everywhere.
