Any ideas why I have such a gap? It's always been like this.And how to rectify.

Shorter pushrod or machine a spacer!!

If I make the pushrod shorter I'll have to have more spacers. Any other ideas why it's all set up wrong?

No, it works fine. Just wondering why all tha spacers. Thought something was set up wrong.

No, standard 4 speed with overdrive.

No, standard 4 speed with overdrive.
Unless its annoying you or just want to make it neater because you can then leave well alone if its working well maybe the part fitted had a shorter shaft than OE

No, standard 4 speed with overdrive.
They have made various length combinations of these slaves over the years…Yours seems to have quite a long body and a thin flange. I suspect if you just google Triumph 2000 slave cylinder, then compare with say GT6 etc you will see the differences. The only issue with spacing as you have is the marginally higher point loads placed on the body of the unit at the lugs but It will not be that much different. N.
