Vixen, What carburettor should I have?
Discussion
Having a v8 with all that power Peter you will always going to be disappointed.
I spent a few thousand on my MGB , 140bhp at the wheels .it felt like a joke next to a very standard 4l with a tired cam.
With the 285 cam it would not even pull until 3000rpm .
Put a Duratec or small block ford in it .

I had a 1600M with a 285 cam and it was flat below 2500rpm, very tiring to drive on normal roads.
I ended up removing the 285 and fitting standard GT Cortina cam 86bhp+ after very nice to drive.
I have an Elan Sprint 126bhp and it pulls from 1000rpm and very nice to drive on normal roads.
Imho as your car had a Twin Cam when it was built i would keep looking for one.
If you could find a Twin Cam head or buy a New one, you could fit it on a 1600 block.
It's possible to build a 1700cc, very nice.

A twin cam is on the back burner.
First I would like to sort out a bit of history of the car, any ideas where I could start?
As for the carburation .
I removed the carburettor, stripped it down and chucked it in the dishwasher on a hot wash.
Assembled with an overhaul Kit, increased the main jet size by five, assembled and fitted to car.
Now, no stuttering on the second choke and car runs pretty well! Thank goodness for dishwashers

Try TVRCC for history. It may have been kit built, be very surprised if it came out of the factory with anything other than a Cortina GT engine. First I would like to sort out a bit of history of the car, any ideas where I could start?
