British Liscense Plates

I bought my 74 TVR 2500m in Jan.2006.It had British Plates on it.I am now curious to know if the car was bought in England and shipped here by previous Owner.The gent I bought it from knew nothing of the car.He just sold it for the Owner.I have no contact with either one.I have the plates here and the # is USB 571T.I know the plate number has nothing to do with the History of the TVR.I was curious as to why it wasn't changed to U.S.and maybe a PistonHead owned it at one time.The vin# is 2798TM.A long shot,but I thought I'd ask...Eddie Zak

On my various travels to the USA for car shows, I've seen a variety of English sports cars wearing UK plates. One Morgan had plates bearing the name of my local Morgan dealer, but the car was 3781 miles away in New Jersey. The owner told me that he kept the UK plates on the car as it gave extra 'authenticity' and the US cops never bothered to check him out. I have heard the same with some TVRs and have seen a Vixen that had UK plates, for the same reason.
I would guess that the previous owner of Mr Zak's beast put on some UK plates for the same reasons, either to add 'authenticity' to a strange English car in the US and/or to fool the authorities.
I could be wrong (but am seldom)

I think you are correct, those plates have never belonged to that TVR

I did some research,and with the help of the PHers on this Classic site,I managed to get alot of the cars history.You were all exactly Spot On.
The car was never registered in England or Europe
The car was exported direct to U.S.in July 1973.
The liscence plates are from Scotland.
I managed to find the previous owner,and spoke with him by phone.Seems he owned the car 20yrs ago,and he told me about the work he did on the TVR.I thought the speedometer cable was broken because it only registered 22,000 miles,but it is the actual mileage.His parents went on vacation to Europe,I beleive they have relatives there and that's when they picked up the plates for him.Reason being as mentioned on the thread:To make the car look more Authentic.Interesting story,besides for getting the liscense plates,his parents went to Blackpool to get him a radiator for the TVR,and carried it onboard for the flight back.
Also,He wants to buy (His) TVR back
