Are the mounting points for the steering column on a Vixen S2 adjustable?

Why I ask is that having fitted a new Moto-Lita steering wheel at the weekend the end of the column doesn't appear to be at right angles to the dash resulting in the wheel being skewed - left side of wheel being closer to the driver than the right.

Anyone else experienced this?

It must be the only time that "they are all like that sir" comes to mind, and is true.

Thanks chaps! Thats reassuring.
Looking at the interior shot of the S3 in the classifieds I was wondering if that was the case.

Steve/Adrian/others

I wish to replace the spear-like solid column on my Grannie MkIII with a collapsible one. Is there a direct Triumph replacement for the Herald one? I'd rather not get into shortening column and changing rack unless I have to. I wondered whether Dolomite or other later Triumph may do the trick. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Richard

why not keep it solid, run it through the bulkhead in a carrier bearing into a UJ immediately t'other side of bulkhead to the rack via another UJ just in front of the rack. You could always also support the long length in a rod end welded to a suitable place in the chassis.....

Thus max 2 UJ's and retained in a carrier, in the event of a collision both ends can move meaning that the wheel will much more likely pull forward slightly.

Don't worry martin. Its a pre-M, you are much more likely to be incinerated by an exploding tank..........live a little

other than that I am pretty sure that they went to a TR6 type column in later cars which was collapsable

Neil.

The thought that you might be thinking of NOT changing the rack is worth a rethink...and you should be able to correct the steering wheel position at the same time. Shortening the rack body to help the bumpsteer is the normal thing to do which moves the pinion position, changing the rubber/webbing lower joint is a must. (I don't see how a 2 joint system would inherently pull away from you in a crash as the M does without a strong pivot point for the central shaft, which is part of the chassis of the M to rotate around). But it should be posssible to fit the sliding column joint that the M has.
