Nice lap time at Zolder John.

Anyhow with all this talk of alternative engines, will a TVR staight 6 go in an M, what better engine to put in than a TVR unit?

Just a thought.

John

I have always thought about whacking a 4.5 AJP into my Tuscan.

Torqueir than the 4.2 however constantly risking tearing the car to pieces if you gave it the beans. If you de-tuned ot to about 300 bhp then its njot too stressed and still plenty for the car!

What a thought though, and its TVR built! any ideas on the practicalities of this? I already have the T5 box and realise that brakes, diff etc would have to be done.

I have a vision of the engine twisting the chassis into the ground!

Hi John,
Thanks for the Zolder comment - need soMe competition there!!

Belive it or not, when it somes to replicas, engine swaps etc, I am a bit of purist (though not nearly as bad as Linda). Anything that changes significantly from Factory Spec quickly becomes catagorised as a hound...or worse, a kit!! I appreciate the engineering, though rarely the end result (a particular red V8 engined S seems to be the exception to the rule smile)

I'm sure a S6 would go into an M, not sure I'd be the one to try it though and the subsequent necessary upgrades would be horrific.

For the record, your cars development over the years does not condem it as a hound or a kit. wink

Cheers
John

Hello SJ.

Only 2 ways to go in my book.

Either very big and grunty or Small and Lightweight.
...
We have lots of good 4 cyl 16v engines on this side of the pond. The Zetec and Duratec must be considered as the modern BDA / Twink engines and at £2000k ($1000) for a brand new engine inc ancillaries I cannot really understand people who get dirty in scrap yards chancing a second hand motor.
...
The S2000 motor is a little expensive here and moreso for parts and to be honest would give me a headache. It makes good power though
...
The 2.8 engine really was the poorer relative to the Essex since it only had siamezed ports and as such always was difficult to get any power.
...
It also Brings complete deranged tuning Lunatics out of the woodwork who contoinue to wring every last horse from the stablehehe (He'll be along in a minute)

N.
Agreed. There's an area/range of hp/weight where you've just got weight w/o the payoff of hp. The S2000 motor would probably be a headache. Good power, yes, and VERY fun to rev.

Yes, the US doesn't have a very broad selection of small bore high performance motors. Very sad, really.

On the 2.8i engine - and the TR6 2.5 - I've got two really rather boring lumps in my TVRs - 280i and 2500M. My Elan, though, is a different story. The little Lotus/Ford Twink is even today a lovely motor.

Back in the seventies I had a 2500M with a stage three conversion - TR6 6 with triple twin webbers, bell mouths and high lift cam etc. It was pretty wild to say the least and great fun with the overdrive switch like a booster rocket!!
