Morning all

I know a little about SU's but the Weber's are all new to me. My 32/36 DGV in my 1600m is giving me some problems. I'll run if I either have the choke out or my foot on the gas, but it will not idle on it's own any more. My guess would be that some muck has got into a needle valve.

Anyway, my questions is, is there a source of information, like a service guide or one of the haynes carb books that'll help me. Haynes do a couple but has anyone used them?

Haynes' Weber book works for me - don't be surprised if it doesn't cover all the variations though.

Robstan,

Ther is a very useful section on overhauling a weber DGAV 32/36 in the book 'Rebuilding and tuning Ford's Kent Crossflow Engine' by Peter & Valerie Wallage. This book is available through all the usual sources as well as ebay.

In my experience dismantling and reassembling carbs always takes about an hour longer than you expect, thats' due to the time it takes to find the little springs and circlips that have a nasty habit of pinging off around the workshop..............

Alan, I have that book! I can't remember seeing anything about the carb set ups, I'll go check tonight. I've also found the Haynes carb book for pre 79 units on eBay for a few quid, so that’s on its way.

While I'm here... the air filter assembly should have a pipe that draws the air in from across the exhaust pips, but it’s missing. Does anyone know what the donor vehicle was for it? or where I might be able to fond a replacement?

Hi, sounds to me like you have an air leak somewhere on the carb, at a guess, the base gasket as they do deteriorate with age. But check the vacuum pipe as well if there is a crack in the rubber connector change it!!
Otherwise take the jets out and blow them out carefully, you could have
a blockage in the slow running jet.
If you do not have the confidence to do this, find a local specialist who has a reputation and experience of race cars.These guys normally have great experience of all Webers.

I had a similar problem with a weber recently, it turned out to be a small air leak through the gasket between carb and manifold
