OK, I give up (nearly). I'm trying to replace the inner and outer grease seals on one of the rear hubs. It appears to me I have to get the outer hub off the quill shaft to replace the outer seal. I first tried a bit of heat (ordinary blow torch) and a large puller and failed so then I took it to a garage where their 20 ton press also failed to shift it off the taper. Do these things seize permanently or do I try a commercial vehicle garage and a 30 ton press - will that damage the quill shaft (I have left the loosened castellated nut on to minimise damage to the threads)?

Any advice is gratefully appreciated, I'm fed up with spooning wheel bearing grease out of my brake drums. I live in Fareham so if anyone knows of a trustworthy local engineering shop that can help please let me know.

Incidentally I rescued the components from one local garage that admitted their press wasn't up to it so they were going to stick it in a vice and use a very large hammer............... cretins!

Hi, Had the same problem with my series 2 Vixen and posted a help note.

The gamekeeper I think it was, said to stop before I did something stupid like damaging the hub flange!!

Luckily I did stop in time but had to check it was true on a lathe.

T quill shaft come out from the rear with the hub flange still attached, if I recall>

Hope this helps
