Not Lucas/TJ/KF, but, I hear that that Adrian@ fella is running an injector system through the 38 DGAS butterfly setup (erm, slightly bored 38 DGAS) with full ECU control, OK it's on his Turbo but it will run on the normally aspirated car too. I not sure where I heard it but....

Adrian,
Can you email me some thoughts on building a 5000m race car for someone, whose standards you knew to be very high, given a sound donor car. The person would wish to compete in the Dunlop Tuscan Challenge and do occasional track days and sprints. He hates being second, but is getting used to the idea.

Cheers
John

I sense that our Mr Simpson is hatching a plan!! next Season John? we need some more classics out on the track, me included.

But What About these bastardised M's?? Come on John. Why not go this route:

Man Porn or What! It certainly looks better than a Small block. You know you want to.

I know of an ex Works Capri Spa engine that is up for grabs but the price was more than a little eye watering to say the least ...

Can you get any of the castings reproduced or is there any other way of sourcing these engines ? The Chinese seem to be able to clone most things.

All alloy 302 would seem a little more cost effective ... but it's obviously got "dubious parentage" :-)

Isn't it funny how all these topics that are started get hijacked and go off at a tangent. Someone wants to know opinions on essex V something similar priced but perhaps more modern and we end up with 2 seperate topics, one involving engines that cost more than my house and the other on building race cars with equally irrelevant to topic engines.

I'm can see the attraction of going the modern engine route and know someone who is building a 2500M with strangely a 2500 engine, but a 300bhp duratec with enough torque to pull a house down but my view is if you want a classic then keep it a classic. The essex engine suits the character of the car and if power is required tune it.

Just noticed for sale in clasifieds a 3000M Diesel with an Audi diesel. Great idea but surely the Audi was a much better place to leave it than ruin a good classic. The value of these cars is ridiculously low but the prices will pick up I promise and the "original" cars will become desirable and the bastardised ones less so.

My opinion is either recondition the engine you have, buy a good replacement but properly reconditioned, rebuild your engine and modify it for more performance if thats what you need or sell the car and buy a car with the engine you require already fitted, perhaps a Mondeo. If you want a good engine and box for your "M" I may have just what you need in my clearout

John surely you dont want to build a racecar based on a podgy overweight "M" series car. Weight is the enemy and at about a ton its a lot of car to lug around.. Buy something about a quarter of a ton lighter. Strangely I know exactly where there is such a car

wow! what a responce, what would u do? was but a simple question to a dilemma i find my self in ,it's great to see so many views and opinions but ultimately i guess it down to personal preference and for sure cost. So having read all thats been written i think that the old tractor engine will be in for a treat quite soon,
cheers mark

I agree. Give it a tickle but keep her original.
