Minilite, revolution or compomotive that they want to sell??

Would be able to provide T slots in part exchange if that was of benefit??

But surely you need to standardise your backset and Offset's John. Also If you are running Slicks then maybe you should look toward 16". Your going to need all the help you can get with the tractor engine and your wheels and tyres will account for most of itwink

I'm quite happy to run 15s Neil and as I'll just be pottering around at the back of class C, not sure the investment to 16s is worthwhile.wink

The tractor engine is being decoked at the moment and having some new piston rings on number 3 and 6 cyliners. The block is being painted and a new thermostat housing fitted hehehehe so should be quite fit and would be competitive with the right lightweight driver..however.....

You class B boys are in a different league. biggrin

I would go for a wheel that is readily available, as if you have an off/impact (not that you are intending too!!!) the chances of a wheel being damaged in any impact are quite high. Therefore the availability of a replacement (and quickly) should be borne in mind.

Surely you'll be needing two sets of wheels wets/drys?

Anyway I wish you a lot of luck with this venture, it will be great seeing a proper TVR (with racing pedigree) back out on the track, and I'll certainly be coming along at some point during the year to spectate.

As for pottering about at the back, I don't think that's in your genes!

All the best

Hi David,
Revos and Minilites (the compomotive version) are current so ok there. I have a set of split rim FHs already and if any problem, could get Image to make a replica. It maybe that I just get them to make replicas in any case.

The pottering around thing is probably what it will look like I'm afraid, but I will be giving it my all (don't know any other way as you suggest). The current regs have class B cars legally running max 300 rear wheel bhp/ton, Class A unlimited, class C limit around only 171 rear wheel BHP per ton. Huge variance but entertaining - I suspect the most used items on the car will be the mirrors! laugh

Would be nice to meet up and see where the last 20 years have gone!

Cheers
John

It's not as long as 20 years!! Last time I saw you was at a trackday at Donington (when Roger C's rear suspension let go), you had a red 350i then I think. Same year as Stanford Hall Mania - 2000? That was the last trackday I did in a TVR (only a couple of Sprints followed, before I damaged the engine beating Ian B in the yellow Vixen at Goodwood by a fraction of a second!).

Two children later and a house move to Wales saw the Taimar go (still needing engine work), only to be written off by the next owner I believe, though I have noticed some bits appearing on other cars (eg the wheels/tyres are now on a V8 3000M - last sold through eBay).

Now the children are getting older (8 and 6), am starting to hanker after another (project) TVR. When it happens it will definitely be a pre-1980 car.

Hopefully your championship will be going to Oulton, my now 'local' circuit, and I'll come along.

Best of luck with your wheel hunt, don't know about other brands but my 15" Revolutions required spacers on the front, which required some Venny long bolts. If your other wheels don't require the spacer then the bolts will be too short for Revolutions, and you won't want to change the hub to chnage the wheels! Something to consider perhaps.

Regards, davidy

I know it's not as long as 20 years buts its been a long while. The red car was a 350SE - a good car.

Now the children are getting older you have two young mechanics to help!

Hopefully the championship will be going to Oulton, it's one of my favorite circuits, if we do I'll let you have some paddock passes so you can bring the team along to assist wink .

I'll try and stay away from spacers, but I'd not thought about the stud lengths.

Regards, John

It was the red M Jos, but it was nothing serious and the damage was noticed before any accident. From memeory, it was a shock absorder that died...How did the front N/S wheel stand up to the damage??

And I had a spare pair of Ledas with Springs in the back of my car, which promply exchanged hands for some folding notes.

It was his hillclimb/sprint car not the the Taimar Turbo SE (though I do remember following the latter car at Silverstone when it went through one of the polystyrene corner boards. Needless to say I didn't follow him but stayed on track!

I might even have a set of ML in black (15&quotwink as I might go to 15x7" next year for the 6 (can also later run on the Griff - but likley get another set for that).

No, it's a colloquial, North-East England translation of 'Artois'.

Hope that helps. Bonjour.
