Harewood picture thanks for posting this, I think it pre-dates Chris having the car.

Although it was a long time ago I was a mechanic for my late friend Cris White. At no time was there any mention of a wheel coming off and hitting another car. As a witness I attended the inquest into the accident and nobody at the inquest said anything about the car losing a wheel.
This included the police who inspected the car after the accident and the circuit representatives.
When I collected the car after its release from the police inspection all wheels were on the car and if my memory is correct there was no sign of any damage to indicate a wheel had come off.
Many years later I spoke with another driver about it and he remembered the accident well again he made no mention re the wheel.
I was a formula ford driver in the previous race and came off at knickerbrook hitting the railway sleepers backwards, the track had a nasty camber at knickerbrook and I locked wheels with a competitor and that was that.I sat around at knickerbrook with the St Johns ambulance crew and watched the next race in which Chris White died,as I remember it was the first lap and he overtook for the lead on the way down to knickerbrook and came off backwards and hit the same sleepers as myself there was a huge commotion and the race was stopped I went back to the paddock in the same ambulance as Chris RIP.

I've just been sent this photo of Brian Hough at Thruxton behind Barry Sidery Smith's MGB and a Ginetta. (Sorry for poor scan) Brian's car is number 202

The photo is copyright to Tony Gardiner.

Tony believes the photo was taken 8th July 1973 but does does anyone have more details.

John Baggot's MGB racing book says Barry bought JYH 770D in 1974 but this Is not accurate as understand Brian Hough was killed at Thruxton 28th Oct 1973.

I could probably get the info from BARC at Thruxton but if anyone has details / programme please let me know to I can report back to Tony.

Thank you

Rob

That is a fantastic and very rare picture Rob.

The picture cannot exist after Oct 1973 since Brian Hough was killed in the car pictured at kimpton bends Thruxton. I am therefore assuming that this is an earlier round in the BARC Modsports championship so would tie in with the July date Tony has.
Plenty of leaves on the trees so it certainly isn't October in the photo
In 71 and 72 Chevron oils was the sponsor.
73 and 74 it was Blue circle which may help Tony if he has any more cars with sponsors logos etc.
Would love to see more photos if they exist.

Neil,

See another of Tony Gardiner's photos.

The Healey in the background is registered 2257 N.

Rob

Edit looks like a Blue Circle sticker on the Midget. The headlights probably show Brian is lapping the Midget (as expected).

Thanks - I've not really started with this period yet but I've come across another entrant in Modsports which I've not yet identified (apart from Rod Longton, Ed Stephens, Chris White and Brian Hough) namely John Kierswill in a Green / Purple (good 70's colours) Tuscan.

I'm assuming it is a V6 as he raced at Thruxton 25th March 1973 Blue Circle Race A against Rod Longton and Ed Stephens in their V6's.

Ed stevens i think bought Brian Houghs V6 car when Brian Bought the ex Bigland Richard Taft car (pictured)
Another name associated with the big car I think is Ted Worswick
The shell of the V6 car is owned by Wim..Who started this thread.
Never come across John kierswell…Interesting.

Did the Ex Hough/ Ed Stephens Anglia Double Glazing V6 evolve into Ed's V8 as raced at Brighton Speed Trials (pictured).

(As an aside I vaguely remember seeing the V8 at Ed Stephens in Clanfield with the Union Jack roof)

So is the shell at the beginning of the thread the remains of the V6 (subsequently modified into Ed's V8 and not the Ex Taft / Hough V8).

its the remains of the car in your picture above I think.
The ext Taft car was cut up and Buried after the accident at Thruxton.

Fantastic pictures of the Hough car! Hadn't seen those. Is there any way to get a higher resolution, on those scans?

Best regards,
Bernard.

Rich - As said I've not really started on the late 60s / early 70's yet but would like to see Keirswell's V6.

Tony Gardiner took the photos of Brian Hough's car - I've have copies of his photos but I've just taken a quick iPad photo of the original to post here hence low res. I can ask Tony if he can print more from the negatives (if he still has them) if you would like a copy.

It would be good to put together a full history of all the Modsports cars, on another thread Duncan is checking the history of Dr Rod Longton's V6. I wonder if Ed Stephen's is around (I understand he went to live in Germany?) he could probably help.
