TVR in US MARKET.

The new SAGARIS will be available also for US market in 2013 with V8 engine.
The Limited Edition of 20 cars will be called SAGARIS 500.
The number indicates the power to weight ratio but also the memory of the iconic Griffith 500.

A lot of us are thinking this is pure rubbish - Federal approval for a car without bumpers, EPA approval etc in under a year?

We have no idea. This is all being claimed by a very strange Facebook page - we think it's a John Dokic.

No and I doubt they'd get one either without spending $$$$$$$$$$$$.

I imagine the only way you could get a Sagaris (shape) into the USA is to go the route Noble went with the M12 and M400. i.e. Rolling chassis with an approved drivetrain installed in the USA so probably LS.

wasnt there some question of the legality of noble even doing that?

It may have been questioned but it worked and I guess it must be OK as the cars did get in the country and were registered, I understand that the regs are very tightly enforced over there so it msut comply with the law if not the spirit.

The cars evolved into the Rossion and were still built in SA by Hi Tech and imported for a few years although I undersand that the production is now intended to be in the USA.

from what i understand getting the cars into the country is one thing, getting them registered is another and that varies by state.

And having done that you can still have the car taken from you and end up behind bars if the car violates federal laws !! happening to skylines at the mo !! yikes

If I was restarting a company like TVR the USA is about the last place I'd start.

Yes you're right but those cars did and do get registered.

The Skyline thing is a totally different can of worms and is very illegal. Interestingly some of the first people involved in their import were called Burdette and Santacreu. Ring any bells? wink

Getting a nonconforming car into the country and, depending on the state, getting it titled and registered isn't the tricky part. It's getting it past the DOT and the EPA.

Doing the above can be a tremendously expensive and annoying process.

Now, a manufacturer simply needs to "self certify" namely they need to certify that the car meets federal standards and affix a label attesting to such. The truth is, the easiest way for this to happen would be for them to sell brand new cars as kit cars and have the buyer install their own engine of choice.
