Bringing a Tuscan over from Blighty for an event.
Discussion
Just a "testing the water" question.
I have been invited to bring an event over to the US for a trial run.
The press mule for said event is a Tuscan in full livery.
I've looked into it a little but not in any proper depth. We'd like to ship the car over a month or so prior, then run the event and ship it back after.
From what I can tell, it can legally drive in the states for 1 year without having any of the local emissions testing etc as it wouldn't be imported, but visiting.
My question is, noise...As you're all aware, Tuscans aren't the quietest of cars and ours being de-cat’d and seriously anti-social would certainly raise some eyebrows.
Are we likely to run into trouble with local law enforcement?
I'm quite keen to do this as I'm sure the Tuscan would turn a few heads and would draw interest, or am I being unrealistic here and should we just come over and hire a couple of cars once stateside? I know the latter is by far the easiest option, but would the TVR be worth it for the interest it could draw?

During many of my trips to the USA, I've heard vehicles being driven on the public highways which made Concorde seem quiet and no one batted an eyelid.
The question may be best posed to the people who have invited you, let them take some responsibility.
Don't forget, insurance may be an issue, and more importantly, being RHD, you'd have a major problem with-drive through fast food oulets

yes I will breach this our hosts, I'm being a bit necky actually as they want the event which doesn’t necessarily require the Tuscan, its just me that wants to take it along as something a bit out of the ordinary. But seeing as the hosts are Gov based, they may have a bit of push for us. Insurance wise, I've set our broker to it, but failing that would an American company even toy with the idea of covering something like that?
Oh and I'll make sure I have a Co-Driver for the Drive thru's
You can do it, and you should! A Tuscan at any show would be great. There's a BMW-centric car art exhibit near me at the moment that would have been so much better with a late model TVR on display.
You enter the car as you described, limited to 12 months. There are some other restrictions, such as you much be the principal driver, entry and exit must roughly coincide with your travels, and so on. Insurance may be tricky, but there is always a company that will take on the risk. RHD is not an issue at all unless you like fast food drive-thru's, which should be banned anyway. Using roll-on, roll-off shipping will save you a bundle and I although there are horror stories about damage, theft, etc, I have never heard a first-hand account of such things. Get good marine insurance and don't worry.
I doubt the customs employee will even hear your car run, but they will check it over. You then pick it up from the dock when it is released and drive away. The plod don't enforce noisy cars or bikes where I live in North Carolina, but I'm sure this varies depending on how built-up the area is, and how well funded the police department is.
Let us know if you do come over!

I hope you bring it over. Ref insurance Hagerty UK are helpful and approachable - I have a Diablo and Bentley insured with them.
Hagerty USA are a-holes. I insured my Viper and Murci SV with them here in the US and everything was ok for 2 weeks then they contacted me to say they could not insure me as my daily driver (2006 Dodge Ram) was more than 5years old. WTF.

Having recently imported a 350i from Ireland, I've been through the paperwork. There is documentation on bringing in race cars/ show cars and limited visit cars
I believe that if you are bringing a car in and you live in the UK or anywhere else for that matter, you don't have to license the car here. You would definitely have to remove the car at the end of the time period.
Insurance certainly would be a good idea. As for the noise that wouldn't be an issue since you would retain your out of country registration. And didn't ps off one of our boys in blue driving by!
