I used to get between 18 and 24 MPG out of my standard 4.0 Sag so between 200 and 300 miles to a tank. Obviously all dependent on how you drive it though as single figures can be achieved but then others have apparently managed into the low 30s by being very gentle on a long run.

It's a difficult question to answer- on the motorway, steady 80, maybe 25mph, pushing on having fun, maybe 15,so say 20mph overall.

Personally I'd just take the fuel when I find it, especially when you get to the A and B roads in Scotland, keep it close to full as much as you can. I was in Scotland myself and just filled up everyday regardless of the volume remaining.

55 litres although I never remember getting much more than 50 in when it said it was empty.

I may be talking complete mentalness. But I swear shell garages fill up fine, but others, bp, tesco(bp) etc. Always seem to click and stop a lot or overflow and spill before it clicks. Don't really get this at shell. Now this may be my imagination and luck, but it got so common I kinda kept an eye on it and does seem to be a pattern. Maybe pumps shaped different or different mechanisms I have no idea.
Anyways back to proper subject, driving mellow can do around 280-300 miles on a tank (straight 4.0) no idea if good or bad? but who cares lol

Never fill past the first click. One click and stop, otherwise it will throw it back at you and over your lovely hot exhaust

I have a 4.3 Str8six rebuild in my Tuscan and going to Le Man from Scotland(and we weren't being conservative with our driving) but I managed around 24MPG. Thought that was pretty good.

Although as said on the race track I managed single figures very easily.

Squeeze 33mpg out of my 3.6 on way down to cornwall, steady driving around 60-70mph with occasional a/c.

Was extremely happy with that...

A combined cycle I'll normally see ~25 mpg.

One important factor that hasn't been raised here - Final drive in the diff.

Tony your car (my old car) has a 3.9 ratio whereas a standard car will have 3.4 or some have 3.7.

While driving that sag through europe with three other sags/tuscans it was clear to see how much of a difference that makes. When I had reach the fuel light and we all filled up the 3.7 cars needed 10 litres less and the 3.4 car used 18 litres less than me to cover the same roads at the same speeds due to the revs being higher. (My car was quicker though wink )

I would say you can fill up safely every 200 miles and you shouldn't have an issue on the NC500, but once your past half a tank always make sure to top up when you see a fuel station just in case.

If your part of the TVRCC, this months sprint had the write up of my NC500 trip in my T350,
Theres plenty of fuel stops but not much super fuel up there.
Just be careful on some of the single tracks as my T350 was scraping the floor and I raised it 10mm for the trip.

On our French trip last year we got around 30 mpg coming back from the south of France at around 80-90 mph cruising on the motorways. That is the 3.6 and 3.43 diff. I was quite surprised and impressed to be honest!

I didn't think my 18 to 24 was too bad for general road driving with the Sag but on the basis I only get the 30 talked about above out of my daily driver Leon FR I would have to agree with you Andy.

Haha to be fair I'm probably about the same. I've never seen anything near 30 in my Tuscan. I'd be embarrassed if I did! My daily driver Defender only just hits 30 on a run.
