I'm not sure of the correct terminology, but has anybody replaced the rubber shim (between body and chassis) from above the front suspension as a stand alone job? My near side one has squidged out over the years so I want to replace it. I'd like to know what I need to undo and where a suitable jacking point would be to enable enough clearance to take the old one out and replace it. Any advise on how to tackle it without lifting the whole body or causing undue stress on the body would be appreciated.

I bought a 1m x 1m sheet of 6mm & 3mm off ebay which I used on mine.

The bit over the front suspension doesn't do much as there is very little contact... reminds me mines still missing...

I've noticed at least one car with a body/chassis mounting bolt through this area but my '86 car doesn't have that. I suspect havinging a packing piece and no bolt is fairly pointless as the gap will open and close up as the body/chassis flexes.

My car had a packing piece on one side and not the other, I guess there's enough flex in the chassis/body for it to fall out. I wedged a rubber packing piece into the gap as best I could and then tie wrapped it into place; I've noticed that it does move about though. I bought some nitrile rubber sheet in various thicknesses and selected the thickness that fitted best in the gap.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose if there's a bit of a gap there, rather than the body resting on it, then that would explain how the packing has worked its way out. I'll get around to replacing it one day as it needs doing, but I've been saying that for thirteen years now.

Here you go, try this chap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RIBBED-FINE-FLUTED-RUBBE...

I needed some rubber inserts for my S3 and V8S, and as he was fairly near me and an excuse to go hooning, I went down and had a look, works from home with large workshop and has everything rubbery and can also match and get. Exact match and Great chap, loved TVRs, good contact maybe

Cheers

So by my reckoning, the chassis touches the body:

Boot - 2 bolts in spare tyre well
Above the rear shock towers each side
2 tabs on lower central chassis each side
2 outrigger plates each side
small tab in engine bay near rad each side (mentioned above)

All of the above should have rubber pads of suitable thickness and I agree - why wouldn't you bolt down the ones in the engine bay given the nearest support is way back where the door hinges are? You'd have to drill through the fibreglass and attach a bracket though.
