I'll be honest, Tuffers outdoor kitchen in the green egg thread has created man lust, and my 40th is approaching.

I've wanted an ultimate outdoor kitchen/cooking with fire/entertaining station for a while.

What I need from you guys is inspiration/help/leading astray.

I want a nice entertaining station noting:

I have a weber for family cooking so got weekdays covered, but we love entertaining.

I like the big green eggs

I like pizza ovens

I like fire

I like large workspace, but we have a cabinet maker in the family so this can be made after people have helped me chosen heat sources/cooking centres

budget is about 4k (but man maths might creep in)

One issue is that it has to be portable (ish) as we will be moving house in the next 12-18m

I am in your hands chaps (and chapesses)

For inspiration download the Houzz app. It's great for ideas, and you can use it when showing the trades what you're thinking.

This sounds excellent. I will be doing the same at some point in the future.

I'd also look at http://creativeoutdoorliving.co.uk/saffire_grills_... and visit their showroom in Wentworth, South Yorkshire. They may offer some good ideas.

In mine I'd want:

A ceramic cooker such as BGE or Sapphire

A gas supply to feed a wok burner and a paella ring

A portable induction hob such as a Buffalo

A large prep area and some simple storage and shelving

A herb garden

A hot water heater

Good shelter

Good lighting

I don't want much do I!

Probably not appropriate for you but I've seen some pretty smart looking concrete work tops. Been thinking about a garden kitchen myself

I'm loving this - pizza oven, tandoor, prep space. Use the tandoor to cook in, or pop a grill over it and grill away

If you want it to be portable you'll need to think in modular terms. This also gives you the advantage of being able to mix it up.

Jon,

I have just had mine finished this week. It's for a small courtyard in a 300 year old coach house in Harrogate converted a few years ago to be ultra modern.

The wood we have used is called Iroko and I think the whole lot with the lighting (not including the egg) cost approx 5k but is some of the finest wood work I have seen in a garden!

Just looking to fire it all up this weekend as my new Mavericks thermometers have arrived!

That's lovely (and not far from my new n Yorks office in princes square)

Would love to do something as permanent that when I move.

Love the wood. As mentioned above a client has just spent an eye watering amount covering a pier in the same stuff.

However what I'm really getting at is what kit would you have in a less permanent installation

Currently fixated on an xlarge egg. What would complement that? Is that enough on its own?

Current thinking is the egg. Large prep area. Large sunken sink/ice bucket. Enough drawers to keep kitt in

Am I missing a trick?

Not wanting to run gas outside etc, or create fittings that are a pain to take away with me

Not anything like as grand as some of the pics, but I am also planning a more substantial cooking station this summer - large brick built barbie, prep area, pizza oven. May now have to work out if I can fit a Big Green Egg in...

If you have a BGE, you don't need a pizza oven too.

When I was 15, I built a wooden bench for my parents garden out of Iroko. As it was a GCSE project, it's not close to the woodwork in your garden, but it's now 22 years old and looks pretty much the same as it did new, it's had a couple of coats of preservative, but that's it. A pain to work with as it was so hard, but amazingly durable.

We're going through the planning process for our self build at the moment and one of the things that is a necessity is an outdoor kitchen. I spoke to our builder and he reckons the cost will be pretty minimal, although I don't know if he's thinking along the same lines as me.

Has anyone seen the Grill Dome brand of Kamados?

I only ask as a local company has setup selling BBQ related goodies; http://thealfrescochef.co.uk/category-ranges/grill...

Unfortunately it's online only so my visions of popping down to BBQ nirvana were ruined.

Having used my mate's tandoor I would say

grill
tandoor
wood fired oven to do multiple pizzas and roasts

I have a big green egg which does a great job of all of these but if you are going to give it large, give it large!

Wok burner next to a deep fryer on a wooden topped rickety bench, what could go wrong!
