Has anyone had any experience on having their car resprayed? Mine has has some paint in the past (overspray on the sunroof seal) and the mirrors and front bumper are original colour. There are a couple of surface bubbles to remove but other than that the surface is excellent.
How much would a full respray cost, with options of glass in and masked and glass out? Any advice would be most welcome.. Graham

Speak to these guys as work they are doing is breathtaking. Very tempted to buy an old clapped out 964 and send it to them for resto mod treatment. be interesting to hear what you are quoted.

Tough one, as if you strip the car you might find it needs bodywork, so a glass out respray while might look good and be the cheaper option, these cars prob need full strip down any body work doing etc and that's about £15k.

I know some one who had a blow over job which was big money which bubbled later and when he stripped the car it needed work.

One the plus side if you do a full job on one you should add value and it will last another 30 years.
Spend £5k and it adds no value IMO as the next buyer will want to see a full strip of the car if it's big money.

The car is a keeper and as it is generally in really good condition, I may leave it. The odd bubble will be treated but I think just driving it is the best choice..

The sooner you address the bubbles, the smaller the job will be! The rust will only spread and mainly in places you cant see.

Its well worth investing in getting it sorted properly. But be warned its always worse than it looks, once the stripping begins.

I had a baremetal respraly on my 930 last year, I went in with the intention of just removing glass and doors etc with a budget of £10k. The problem is that if you don't go to the metal you just don't know if there is corrosion is beneath the surface ready to come through after you've had your basic respray making it a pointless exercise. I took the view that I wanted to be sure what I was dealing with and cure any issues which might arise later.
The work was carried out by Tuthill in Banbury who made an excellent job of it with a £20k final bill. This was more than planned (surprise!) but its impossible to take a 30 year old car apart and not have to replace some parts.

This

964 likely won't need bodywork but there's more rust than you can see at present.

Do it right, do it once.

Talking to a very well know aircooled specialist around 5 years ago (Adrian Crawford) most 964s do rust and badly but not necessarily where the older cars do.
Worryingly it can be the bulkhead where on occasions he could have literally pushed his hand through, and (and I'm only repeating what he told me) he'd seen quite a few. I'm a little unsure now exactly where he said, but I'm 90% certain it was high up under the wheel arch behind the linerr, a place you can't see unless you took the front wheels off, removed the liner, even then there were no real signs of rot ..... until you pushed against it .

Where are you based?

I can recommend Rivera Autobody, if your local call in and speak to them, the standard of work is top notch, they have a load of Porsche experience and do a lot of the work for various Porsche Indies in Berkshire.

Ty is also pragmatic and will be able to give you various options if you have a budget to work to.

I got the car from Ray at Northway and that is where he goes for bodywork, so I may talk to them. Thanks for all the replies, very helpful.
