More to the point, how does someone with that little skill even get an FIA racing licence in the first place?

The flip side being that wealthy guys who's wallets outweigh their talents are driving motorsport costs up. Insurance costs grow year on year, and if the trend continues then drivers like Chris & Richard will be priced out of it as their Am drivers will not be able to support them.
He was out of his depth and should not have been on the grid. Lucky we didn't see damage to other innocent parties.

I don't know about insurance costs but the fact remains that the whole sport is dependent on rich old dudes and in my experience Vadim Kogay is very much the exception. The pay drivers generally seem very aware of their abilities and in some cases can be over cautious.
Ultimately a lot of the pro-drivers are also acting as driver coaches and whilst they all want to compete at the highest level they are also aware that they can't push their charges too hard as at best they may get scared off the track and at worst do a heck of a lot of damage.

Having been to watch the blancpain endurance race this weekend at silverstone its clear the amount of money that's required to compete at this level but with regard to people going cheque book racing there are some wealthy guys on the grid doing it for fun and because they can but I feel its unfair to label the all the drivers in that position as bad for the sport
Take Jones and Abra as mentioned above both Ian Loggie and Mark Poole the guys that bring the budget to their respective teams both could of easily gone out an stuck a Nick Tandy or Darren Turner in the car but instead chose to put in at the time unknown drivers in the car to give them a chance these guys are doing the sport good and having followed the britcar championship of the past few years both Loggie and Poole put huge amount of time and effort in to improving their own driving and are very capable in their own right and it was great to see both these teams gain class podiums at the weekend
Motorsport is by its nature an expensive sport and ultimately someone has to cover to the cost but lets give credit to the guys like Loggie and Poole trying to do it in the spirit of the sport not going out buying the best drivers on the market sitting back watching them do the work and picking up the spoils they have developed young drivers And put the seat time in themselves and with Loggie winning the msa british endurance championship and gt cup gtb class while Poole has won the Britcar 24 ( again in not the best car ) and silverstone 1000k its proves there's a place for "pay drivers" and they can also add to and not detract from the show

Seems to have been involved in a major crash at the Silverstone Classic. Apologies if repost;

First part of the Telegraph report is about the crash at the Silverstone Classic. Second half of the report refers to many crashes at the Spa circuit, one of which involved Vadim Kogay, the subject of the OP.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/motorsport/109...
